NCAA Football - 2011

I can't wait to see the Oklahoma State spring game. Biletnikoff winner Justin Blackmon, All Big-12 QB Brandon Weeden, entire O-line returning, and a 5-star RB recruit in Herschel Sims (plus two RBs -- Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith -- returning).

The two guys who made this crazy play in the Bedlam game: -- DB Broderick Brown and LB Shaun Lewis -- are back as well. :hyper:

If Alabama fans think Auburn fans have an inferiority complex, that's what I'd call delusional.
And I suppose that most Auburn fans thinking that Alabama fans have a superiority complex is not delusional? Bias is a funny thing, isn't it?

In fact, fans on both sides suffer from both of these descriptions. They're psychological terms used to describe feelings or behaviors in people surrounding specific areas or subject, typically without the people even realizing they are being affected by it. Even some casual reading about it at a place like Wikipedia easily reveals how true this is of many fans of both schools. Having an inferiority or superiority complex about the subject of football doesn't mean that a person has issues or problems in other area of their lives. It doesn't mean they're mentally disturbed or anything of the sort. It means that they have deep-rooted, subconscious feelings on a subject that frames the way they think and react to events as they happen within that subject matter. For example, thinking that all Bama fans secretly support the killing of these trees, and that we're all shouting Roll Tide under our breath...classic indication of an inferiority complex. You think the world is out to get you because you're finally getting a leg up. You'll see this in any fanbase that hasn't had as much success as a heated rival.

On the flip side, Bama fans thinking everyone is jealous of them when good things happen. Classic superiority complex. You'll see it in any fan base that has a long championship tradition, such as the NY Yankees, LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, Miami Hurricanes, etc, etc.

And I'm not so haughty as to think I don't have one myself. Catch myself reacting in a superior way to Auburn all the time in some kind of way. I draw the line at acts of vandalism though. As a citizen of Alabama, the traditions and monuments of Auburn University are part of the State's traditions and monuments, and I'm quite proud of them (at least part of my brain is). I'm sickened by what happened at Toomer's corner, and I don't think I know a single Alabama fan thus far that feels otherwise. That's why statements like Toaster is making here are undeniably delusional. The percentage of people who actually approve of what this guy did to those trees is so small that its ridiculous for him to actually believe what he is saying. HIGHLY delusional I'll add.

As for the retaliatory nature of people, it's to be expected. It doesn't make it right, but people of low morals will always retaliate for things they perceive as being an injustice. The events that have been happening at the Walk of Champions in Tuscaloosa have been well reported in the state. They obviously less serious than the destruction of century old trees that can't be replaced, but they have happened and have been documented nonetheless. Those events are also getting national exposure now.

People retaliate, or at least some do. Why do you think the statues have been under police guard since the Toomer's corner incident? Nick Saban's statue will be in place in a couple of months. Does anyone not think it'll suffer some vandalism sooner or later also? By this guy doing what he did to those trees, it'll seem to some Auburn fans as if Bama fans are asking for it also. It should be enough to just beat the other team on the field of play, but idiots don't operate like that.

This reported in the paper today of Harvey Updyke's family:

“We have children and grandchildren getting death threats from Auburn fans,” a man claiming to be Updyke’s son told The Mobile Press-Register. “We’re having to pull teenagers, 13- and 14-year-old kids, out of school because people are threatening them.”

Retaliation by idiots.

Nick Saban's statue will be defaced by Alabama fans when he shows them his best side as he heads out of town. He's at least as dedicated to Alabama as he was to The Miami Dolphins, LSU, and Michican State. And Alabama fans are a difficult bunch to live with. Remember Bill Curry, former Alabama coach? His wife was harassed in stores as she shopped and some well-adjusted, well-balanced, perfectly average and normal Alabama fan threw a brick through his office window.

Hey, was that you that threw that brick Eublet??? :D

Also, you say you threw rolls of toilet paper into the now-dying trees at Toomer's Corner when you were a student at Auburn, but now you slam Auburn every chance you get. What happened? How did you undergo this miraculous conversion from lowly Aubie to enlightened Bammer?

... but honestly I think there are group of Auburn fans in the Tuscaloosa area that have been asking for it.

If my thought processes worked like Eublet, I'd probably say that Updyke's children and grandchildren were asking for it, they probably helped him carry the herbicide or something. Good thing I don't think that way.

from lowly Aubie to enlightened Bammer?
More indication of a bona fide inferiority complex regarding Alabama-Auburn football. I've said nothing of the sort, yet all your comments keep steering toward Alabama keeping Auburn down, or mass conspiracies against Auburn, or me finally ridding myself of the Plains and becoming one of the Red Elephant Elite. You don't even realize it, but what I'm saying is that it's okay. Most Auburn fans have this. Not a big deal. Most Bama fans have a superiority complex. Also not a big deal. It's just healthy being able to at least recognize it in yourself from time to time, otherwise you wind up believing your biased world view is actual reality, and you'll think we really do support the poisoning of those trees. Wait, never mind. You're already there.

...otherwise you wind up believing your biased world view is actual reality, and you'll think we really do support the poisoning of those trees. Wait, never mind. You're already there.

So... Do you believe that YOUR view of the world is totally unbiased or do you believe that what you perceive with your own senses is not reality??

You're painting yourself into a corner here, bud. Logically speaking that is. Don't go thinking that your unbiased yet unreiliable perception of reality is distorted and you're missing the paintbrush and can of paint.

No, I'm sure I'm biased. I already admitted to catching myself feeling superior from time to time when it comes to Alabama football. It's hard not to. But delusional visions are different, and I don't think I suffer from that. I certainly don't believe all Auburn fans are evil, nor that all Bama fans are somehow secretly supporting this criminal activity. I'll be equally mortified when some Auburn redneck does something to one of our monuments in Tuscaloosa, and the process will repeat. I'm a bit pessimistic when it comes to believing that the nut jobs on both sides of this argument will be able to contain themselves over all this. Wars are made by people with no restraint. The rest of us have to suffer their selfishness.

I know you don't follow the NFL Eublet, but you should check out the NFL draft this year. There will be a steady stream of Bama boys making their way to the podium in the first round.

-Mike
I'm actually planning to try and make myself pay attention this year. I think it'll be interesting to watch where Newton, Ingram, Jones, Green, Fairley and a few others go in the draft. After that, I can't really watch it. Honestly, I don't want to get interested in it and have to give up Sundays to football also. :D

So you've repeatedly said that I'm delusional, and indicated that the thing that makes an Auburn fan delusional is if they think all Alabama fans are evil.

Did you read "all" in any of my posts? Can you quote it? Or is that part of reality that you missed (or incorrectly filled in)today?

I've said before in TalkBass and I'll say it again: There are classy, Alabama fans that epitomize sportsmanship, and there are Auburn fans of the same values and mindset. Both sides have idiots and kunckle draggers that say and do incredibly stupid stuff as well. But if you think that there were not lots and lots of Alabama fans high-fiving and roll-tiding at what happened at Toomer's Corner your reality is distorted and you are the one that is delusional, my crimson-tinged friend.

Please, if you like, make the argument that the poisoning of the trees at Toomer's Corner is NOT an all time low ([DEL][DEL]could this be ANOTHER Championship won by the Crimson Tide???). [/DEL][/DEL]I'm anxious to hear what stupid stunt committed by an idiot who happens to be an Auburn fan could POSSIBLY be lower.

Note My edit, I'm reaching out and trying to bring this to a more civil discussion. I'm sensing we are closing in on some common ground.

If we're finding common grown, it's only because you're backing off on your original comments. I'm certainly not coming toward your view point. I think the vast majority of Alabama fans are not high-fiving each other over this at all, but I don't know what kind of folks you are surrounded with.

Anyone surprised South Carolina hung on to Clowney? Not me.

Jimbo Fisher got himself a nice raise for beating the Gators. Will FSU take it back when he loses to UF this year? :D

-Mike
I thought we maybe had a shot at him for a while, simply because it was widely discussed how much more his playing style would fit under Saban's defense versus the schemes run at those other schools, not to mention the nicer facilities and coverage he'd receive here. I think it's cool he chose to stay home close to his family. He seems like a good kid more or less.

As for Fisher, I'm not ready to believe he'll build a dynasty there just yet, but FSU killed everyone in recruiting back in the 90's under Bowden. At least Fisher is showing that he can bring in a good class. If he can do that 3-4 years in a row it would be hard to imagine them not making it to a BCS game at least a couple times if not a MNC game. Part of me hopes that the SEC will expand in the next few years and bring Clemson and FSU into the fold.

Open minded readers, note the attitude when I tried to reach out to Eublet. This is typical of MANY, MANY Alabama fans.

If we're finding common grown, it's only because you're backing off on your original comments. I'm certainly not coming toward your view point.

Pompus, aren't you? If I were to continue this , I'd ask for specific original comments. The next item will show why I'm not interested in continuing. BTW, I'm sure you meant common GROUND.

Did you read my post? I said Many, many Alabama fans. I DID NOT say "vast majority". We can't communicate if you want to disregard what I say or misquote me.

Or perhaps you disagree with the part where I say both sides have classy fans and both sides have idiots.

but I don't know what kind of folks you are surrounded with.

Finally, something we can agree on. Rest assured, they are not folks like you. Which is why I will waste no more time on you and your pompus, (typical of many, many Alabama fans, but maybe NOT the "vast majority") attitude.

So "many, many" is less than "vast majority"? I could argue that a group of "many, many" could be more total people than "vast majority".

:D

-Mike

I agree with the vast majority of what you said.

However, 9 is the vast majority of 10, but it's hard to classify 9 as "many, many" (unless you are describing 9 as the number of fans of a certain SEC school with an elephant for a mascot that are in close enough proximity to impose their perceived, yet erroneous superiority upon you. Then 9 CAN be many, many-- way too many). <----- Joke :D

I am going to be brief. One reason is that Smokin' Toaster is already saying much of what I want to say, but better. Another is that I do respect the fact that we attended South Alabama at the same time. However, your ludicrous assumption that Auburn fans have an inferiority complex is comical. If you are that deluded, I will respond with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt--"no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
