NCAA Football 2018 Week 7

I'd say "bite your tongue" if it weren't such a ridiculous idea, but you know that.
Rypien, Porter and Mayes! I haven't heard Kerry Porter mentioned, but Mark Rypien and Ruben Mayes have both been named as ideas. Bledsoe's son is on the football team, so he's around and I believe he lives in the Walla Walla area, although his winery is in Oregon.
Gary Larson doesn't even allow his picture to be taken.
Dolph? Ok, I looked it up, he spent one year there as an exchange student. Meh.
I had to look up Trufant, so I'm gonna guess no. Lincoln kinda rings a bell.
I just saw the story that Bob Robertson, radio announcer for WSU football for 52 years, retired immediately on Monday. That is a real bummer. I loved listening to him.
Last year, the voice of UW football, Bob Rondeau, also retired after 37 years. He was great too.
Probably news that only @Gaolee, @Pilgrim, and I care about.

Mike, thank you for mentioning that! You're probably right about who cares, but this man is a legend in the Pacific Northwest. He has received every major award this is related to sports broadcasting, and has earned all of them.
"Bob Rob" as he is known, has broadcast Cougar athletics for a cumulative 52 years, which is one of the longest relationships in the US.

Watching that video, I'm struck by his energetic, vigorous voice, which seems in contrast with his age and appearance. He's been in the game a long time. His retirement is to WSU what Vin Scully's was to the Dodgers.
I truly love his iconic broadcast signoff, which illustrates what can be good about athletics - and so seldom is:
“Always be a good sport, be a good sport all ways.”
Since I was 10 years old and first heard Bob's broadcasts, I have taken this to heart. I never boo the other team, I cheer for mine. I don't curse the other team or its players. IMO there is no need to talk down about anyone else, just speak well of your own team.
And all three of us can agree on without reservation.
Hey folks, we're getting ready to travel....please tune in to ESPN GameDay this weekend for the show in Pullman. It should be pretty fun.
After 15 years, I'm expecting Cougs to converge on Pullman, each with a flag they want to wave Saturday AM.
The ESPN producer sent a message that he'd like to see 6,000 Cougar flags and wall-to-wall Crimson. I'll bet he's not far off. I just bought two more flags so we're all armed with flags to wave for the event. I'll buy some PVC pipe for flagstaffs after we land.
Still don't know who the guest picker will be, but I'm hoping it's a Coug!

Washington is off this week. I'm a devout Coug for a week, especially since the Cougs can whup on the University of Nike, who should be flogged mercilessly at all possible times. The Huskies failed. The Cougs can redeem the State of Washington. Truth, light, justice, fair play, and the American way are riding on it, but the Cougs are up to the challenge. Plus, it's gameday.
You gotta get in that crowd and have something on or on your sign with a shout out to TBOT.

I was wrong. Surprise. Washington isn't off. The Seahawks are off. All this sportsball gets confusing when you have a day job and band stuff and all. Washington hosts Colorado. I hope they are not hospitable hosts. I'll still be paying more attention to WSU, because beating Oregon is what WSU needs to do. It's what everyone needs to do.
All signs point to yes ... but I'm still very nervous to watch the game.
It's one of the rivalries that lives up to the hype. I'm nervous as well.
Is it just me or does ESPN seem to be more obsessed with the CFP than they have in years past? I mean, I know Disney has a financial stake in ESPN (and its subsidiaries) and the CFP, but it just seems more excessive and ridiculous lately.
Well. I just got back from Pullman - the weekend was fantastic! A high point in history for WSU football! The GameDay program went great, and we were there for all three hours. We were about 10 feet from the second stage where they did features, and got our flags into the shot. They estimated between 10,000 and 20,000 people turned out for GameDay!! WOW! Flags everywhere (I would guess at least 2,000 WSU flags) people just nutso, having fun, and Corso pronounced it "a special place and a special time" and put on the Butch (the Coug) head.
And that night, we beat Oregon 34-20, with the score 27-0 at halftime. The third quarter was scary, but the Cougs steadied down and beat Oregon in the 4th, and that's the 4th year in a row we've downed the Ducks!
It was memorable in every sense of the word. I hope that many of you watched GameDay and learned something about why the WSU alumni are so loyal and passionate about their university. My best to all of you.
