...gets more ironic all the time. Sheesh, us SEC "fanboys" know the names of the other schools and what conferences they're in.
Yes, and Mizzou is the original Missouri State, but you probably didn't know that.
I do pay attention to other conferences, just not the south for the most part. This is also ironic since my family is from Georgia.
For a second I thought it was the College World Series down the road when I saw the score of the Auburn game 
SEC competition.
Going off of the polls, it's hard to argue that the SEC is not the toughest conference in the country. 5 teams in the SEC are top 10 and they're all on each other's schedule for the most part. If that's not competitive, i'm not sure what is.

Also going off of the top SEC bowl games -- Florida v. Ohio St. and LSU vs. Ohio St. for example. What about LSU versus Notre Dame two years ago. It could be that an Ohio St. quality overranked Oklahoma winds up in the BCS game with USC again, in which case, I predict 45 to 3. I think USC took it easy on Ohio St. last night not to embarrass them. I only hope that one of our SEC teams finally gets to play the great USC in a BSC championship game. I predict it will look a lot like the Alabama Miami Sugar Bowl from the 2001/2002 season. Remember USC plays a fairly light schedule too -- not Ohio St. easy, but certainly not SEC caliber!
For the foreseeable future, the winner of the SEC championship should get to play in the BCS championship -- period!
USC's schedule is light because the rest of the PAC10 isn't pulling their weight. I always expect a rough game from Cal and Oregon, but not sure about this year. There's nothing most of the Trojan faithful would want more is a showdown with the SEC. Shoulda happened in '03 with LSU. I live in Tigerland and believe me I get conversations all the time here 'bout that. And please keep Oklahoma away from the BCS title game! Watch out for Mizzou.
I went to the BYU vs UCLA game yesterday and only BYU showed up? UCLA is a PAC 10 powerhouse? Ummm no. Not yesterday.

Why? Tradition. Here's the story.
In the stands with him (a Civil War veteran) that day was a golden eagle the old soldier had found on a battlefield during the war. He had kept it as a pet for almost 30 years. According to the story, the eagle suddenly broke free and began majestically circling the playing field. As the eagle soared, Auburn began a steady march toward the Georgia end zone for a thrilling victory. Elated at their team's play and taking the bird's presence as an omen of success, Auburn students and fans began to yell "War Eagle" to spur on their team ("war eagle" was once the common term for golden eagles). At the game's end, the eagle took a sudden dive, crashed into the ground, and died, giving his spirit to the Auburn fans. The battle cry "War Eagle" lived on to become a symbol of the proud Auburn spirit.
Tradition is a big thing here in the south, m'friend.

Doesn't mean much now. Those that played in-conference barely squeaked by against middle-of-the-pack teams, most that didn't have played a schedule that can be ordered in a bakery - cupcakes, creampuffs, etc.
Props to Alabama and Florida for going out of the SEC to play formidable opposition.
At the very least, it means that most of the experts who vote recognize that the SEC is the dominant conference by far. I might have to eat crow over this at some point, but I doubt you'll ever see another conference have 5 teams in the top 10 at any point in the season.
With all due respect, there's a pretty big difference between 4 of 11 and 5 of 10 with regard to these polls. To add a fifth Big 12 team you have to go all the way down to #19.
I agree, but there is definitely some competition there. I don't think the Big 12 as a whole will stay at the top as the season progresses, but I think teams like Oklahoma and Mizzou are in it for the long haul. Leave it to Kansas to skew the statistics.
It should be a pretty exciting year. I'd like to see some Big 12 vs. SEC showdowns at the bowl games. In the meantime, we'll probably just beat up on each other. The Mizzou-Nebraska game should be pretty good.
