NCBGD!

I'm married to a retired helicopter pilot (among other things, he can fly anything) and he said they called the Chinook the "crowd killer" because if there was a catastrophic failure lots of people people died.
In the performance world "crowd killer" has a much better connotation.
So name it the crowd killer.
It is awesome by the way!

I'm leaning toward "Chinook", and yes, bad things happen when things go wrong. The Chinook has five transmissions - one on each engine, feeding into a "Combiner" transmission, which outputs via shafts to the forward and aft rotor transmissions. It's the only aircraft that can have a "mid-air" collision with itself. That's what happened at an airshow in Germany many years ago - the combiner failed and the blades meshed and killed many spectators. At that time, they were blasting the gearboxes w/crushed Walnut hulls at ovehaul. One of those hulls (now FOD) clogged an oil-jet that starved a bearing causing failure. They dont use Walnut hulls anymore.
 
Now I need to come up with a good name for it.
How about, Smells Like Victory?

I am so envious. I retired from a company that machined and coated Main Rotor Gear boxes for the Apache and CH-47. We also machined and painted front and rear gear boxes, main torque tubes as well as a few other things. I have a few torque tubes here at the cabin to use for light posts.

I retired at the end of last year from a Company that repairs helicopter rotor blades and produces rotor blade static balancing equipment. They had my retirement luncheon today and I was totally floored with the retirement gift they presented to me!

It's a 4-string CBG made with rotor blade materials. The body is made from fairing skin pieces from a CH-47 rotor blade, the bridge and nut are solid composite from a trailing edge wedge, the sound holes are lead-lag damper bushings, the pick-up cover is the pre-cured skin that we use for patches, the purple paste adhesive is the EA9309-3NA adhesive that we use for repairs, the neck is purpleheart (with a touch of flame), and they even put a custom UID data plate on it! Shellac finish.

I'm a big fan of re-purposing materials, and boy did they come up with a great plan/design with excellent execution. I promise to play the heck out of it (probably into a MB Subway TT-800 w/SW112), and will always treasure it!

Now I need to come up with a good name for it....
