Picked up this '92 Crate 2x15 cab several weeks ago. It was stripped to bare bones and was ready for the trash. When I went to look at it, seller had lots of stuff laying around. I spied a couple of speakers among the stuff and inquired about them. He told me that they were the original speakers for the cab. They looked real good, so a deal was struck and I brought the bare cab, most of the trim for it, and those speakers home for a song. A fun project, or so I thought. It was fun, but a ton of work. I had to first sand every section of the cab. It been a carpeted originally and whoever stripped the carpet off left a bunch of it and the glue. Belt sander time. It took a good bit more than I figured to get all of that crap off, but it was finally done. Then came the tolex. I had some leftover from a previous project, so it was waiting to be used. So the project goes on. Lots of guessing on the pattern since I had nothing to go by, but I got it on and it turned out nice. Then added some insulation and all of the trim followed by a detailing. I also had to get the wheel set since those weren't included in the trim parts.
Then came time for speakers. I first tried some JBL's. They sounded great, but since the original speakers ended up being 200 watt Eminence, I wanted to try them. They also looked like they had been redone in the recent past. Got them in and they sounded great, so I left them in. Looks and sound are now top notch. So from the trash, it's now a fully resurrected Crate.
