NDD! New Dingwall Day! Lee Sklar Model!

Starting of 2024 with bang, I finally got my self new Dingwall bass!

This one of those instruments that just inspires you to play and create. it just feels so smooth.

I was able to snag a beautiful Lee Sklar Model that had been featured at the Dingwall booth at 2023 NAMM.

The finish is a super cool retro Batman inspired lavender color which is one of kind, and it is also signed by Sheldon Dingwall inside the rear cavity cover.

This bass is built of Northern Ash/Alder body, maple neck, wenge fretboard with mandolin frets, and a set of Super Fatty II pickups driving a Glockenklang 3-band preamp. This one also features all white pearloid inlays and a Hipshot detuner for getting down to a low A.

Looks awesome. Plays Awesome. Sounds awesome. Bottom line, it’s awesome.

No issues with that at all. It’s very natural feeling to me.

Gorgeous bass. I tried a fan fret 5 string not too long ago. My motor memory just would not adapt to it. But, it sounded great, very well balanced.

Your fingers splay out. It’s not like your hand is directly under the nut when you play the first fret. You don’t even notice it.

Pretty easy. Became familiar to those fret in a few hours of playing. First noticed that i need quite a stretch for playing that long distances on the lower frets.

The mandolin frets definitely give it warm sound. Especially when using it in “p bass” mode. It sound like a nice old 60’s p bass right on.

One thing I‘ve always been curious about: There’s an additional carve taken out the back (afaik only on Sklars, not on Z models) next to the control cavity. Is that little detail really just added to facilitate taking off the lid for LS/you or is there something else going on?
