Neck Contour Resource

get out your digital caliper, and head to your favorite bass boutique. This is how I got my averages that I carve by, I don't know of any resource other than the Fender shape analogies, but even then, nobody is really in agreement on what C and D or Modern D or C really are. It's a crapshoot

I took measurements with a digital caliper of my favorite basss at the nut and at the 18th fret, where the neck heel started. I then made a trapezoidal primitive using those dimensions in my favorite CAD program, which had the ability to give me thickness at any position down the neck. I printed out a table of a few numbers to look for and went to town.

After I got it to those thicknesses, I kept going and gave the neck a sort of ( profile. It's pretty slender and flattish, and I like it a lot. Between the nut and the 24th fret, the neck gains about 3/16" of an inch in thickness.
