Well if ya just would've taken some more of the weight off the pegs, maybe converted to three string instead, it wouldn't have come to this
But have you heard about our "bass as flotation device" thread?

Hi there,

I have a vintage 1982 Yamaha BB2000 all original and it freaking smokes!

I just started playing in a band and I definitely want to use this bass over my g&l jb-2 as it just has such an organic, deep, rich tone running through my Shuttlemax 9.2 and Berg HD112.

However, this yamaha bass is a beast (it isn't light), and it tends to have slight neck dive.

I'm wondering if replacing the tuners helps to solve this type of issue (the original tuners are hefty looking) or if there is a good strap you would recommend that would make playing this bass while standing enjoyable.

I appreciate any advice!

If the footprint's the same, look into Gotoh's Carb-o-Lite tuners. They're not cheap, but they are the lightest anywhere.

Half joking (but half serious) - You could always tie a few dozen helium-filled balloons to the headstock.

In response to the half serious part I googled the lifting ability of balloons, it should work. Here's some specs.

Playing the bass in a vertical position reduces the leverage of the headstock by reducing how far it sticks out.

And there's always a headless conversion. (may reduce resale value).

I had a BB 415 that dove a little and I contemplated routing out some of the back of the headstock.
