uuhhh... not exactly. I'm just sayin' that, if pressure is applied forward or backward, the pitch changes. More easily on some than others. You've probably seen guitar players do it intentionally to achieve a vibrato effect or show off during a solo. I can't really think of a practical application for it in the world of bass... but I'd be willing to bet that Les Claypool has done it!
Neck dive is nothing wrong with the neck, other than perhaps a heavy headstock - it's just the tendency of a poorly-balanced bass to have the headstock fall towards the floor when worn on a strap rather than hanging nice and level.
It can be a factor of materials like light body with heavy neck, heavy tuning keys, large headstock. It can also be due to strap button positioning. General rule of thumb is the upper strap button wants to be even with the 12th fret for good balance.
The next time this happens to me, I'm going to tell my wife it's neck dive. Because the neck is too heavy. We'll see if she buys it.Neck dive defined:

To alleviate neckdive, search "adding tungsten to a bass body."![]()
"Just another plan perpetrated by da man, made to hold a brother down"... CLASSIC!!!Neck dive is a conspiracy theory invented by the wide strap manufacturers.
Actually no they don't, if you actually want to play one. Most of us T-Birders move the strap button to back of neck heel. Yep, that does it.thunderbird and neck dive go hand in hand....

MAN! You T-Bird fellas are quite a band of brothers! When one of you see's your bass or your brother in trouble, the rest of you come out to support and defend. You're like a friggin' biker gang!Have you ever owned and played one?

As a token of goodwill towards the T-Bird Nation... allow me to present what I'm fairly certain is a great deal on a sexy a$$ piece:
RAINBOW MUSIC | CONTACT SALES REPRESENTATIVE
Rainbow Music is the last good "mom & pop" shop in the Grand Rapids area since GC came to town & ran 'em all out of business. Pete & John own & operate the place themselves. Pete is the only solid, trustworthy guitar/bass doctor in our area. Refrets, neck shaves, headstock injuries, electronics... the man is Merlin, Einstein, & Superfly all wrapped up into one! I wouldn't hesitate to leave a $15,000.00 guitar or bass in his hands for major surgery!
Anyhooooo... that T-Bird is absolutely FLAWLESS!!! if any of you guys have any interest in it, or anything else you see on their website, I'll be happy to help facilitate however I can (additional pics, questions, or whatever.)
I know the link says "contact service rep". Don't worry about that. It'll show you the bass without making you contact anybody.
UnderstoodIt's a problem with blanket statements when the Bird is disrespected.
Understood
I've always loved the T-Bird. Especially that gorgeous dark sunburst! About a week after i first started on bass, I decided the T-Bird was the way I was gonna go. Around a month ago, I went down to Rainbow & picked the one up that's in the link I posted. I was saddened the moment I picked it up. I just could not get comfortable with it. The shape of the upper rear portion of the body, kept me from resting my right forearm in a comfortable or functional way. Perhaps after a few years of playing, I could adapt, but for right now... no Thunderbird for me![]()
Yes on both accounts even though its a goth it still has neck dive I still enjoy playing it.Have you ever owned and played one?
