Neck Dive

Fill the control cavity with sand.......kidding

I agree with the "new bass" theory, unless you're willing to reduce the weight on the stock, (lighter tuners, probably not much of a difference) and increasing the weight on the body (no ideas here other than maybe hanging a brick from the rear strap nut.

I wish I could help you more.

Ultimately, I think a bass that has some ergonomic flaws (like neck dive) may require compensation from the user and over the long term that will/could negatively affect posture, correct playing/technique. Might be better to grab a new bass as soon as reasonable. When you check out the next bass(es), bring a strap and play 'em standing up and see how they hang.

Best to you.

Here's the order I'd go in. I've used all of these - every little bit helps, depends on the dive.

Better strap.

Knobs; may not seem a lot, but if you have 4-5 knobs, and they're light plastic, throw some chrome-domes on.

Ultralite Tuners.

Heavier bridge.

Move the strap peg.

Just for me, I'd get a new bass. Plenty of great ones that can be just a nice as the one you have now. Neck dive means to me poor engineering even tho it is acceptable by many as worth putting up with (ala T-Birds). Who the heck wants to start hanging lead weights off a bass or restrict movement holding it up while playing? Not me.

OMG, I really dunno why all of you are making such a big deal about neckdive. My thumb BO 5 got serious neckdive and guess what? I've adapted within a month! Just get used to it and you won't notice it anymore

If you want proper vertical motion you don't want to be wasting left-hand energy and motion holding the neck up. If the bass sits properly the same note is always in the same place, which is absolutely as it should be.

i have an epiphone thunderbird and have just cured the neck dive issues without drilling. all you need is 2 washers. take the top right screw out of the neck plate. put one washer on then the strap then the washer. put the screw back in. it still reaches in to the neck holding that strong and there is no neck dive. try moving to the top left if there is still a problem.
