I like jazz nut width but thin profile. I hate a 5ers depth (no pun intended, added B range and wot not) because I can't fill my hand with them. Dunno what it is, I just can't stand thick necks. I tried the Bronco the other day, and I couldn't get comfortable with it at all.

I like a really shallow vintage C shape. The AVRI 62 Precision and Jazz necks are perfect for me. The deeper U and more modern P-neck shape doesn't do it for me. I mean, I can adapt, but it isn't nearly as comfortable. Depth of the neck bugs me way more than say, nut width.

Vintage c shape 60s style is fenders ultimate shape IMHO.

Anybody ever play an asymmetric neck that a few manufacturers (Carvin is the only one I can think of) offer? What's the difference feel-wise?

I'm pretty sure Tobias developed the asymmetrical neck but I'm not 100% sure. We should throw Torzal into the mix too just for fun.

So my question is:
What kind of neck profile do you prefer and why?
Does anyone prefer a thicker neck profile? If you do - please enlighten me to the advantages!

Im not talking about string spacing or neck breadth. I'm talking about the cross section of the neck.

I prefer a more substantial neck because it fills my hand better and I don't cramp up as a result. It may feel counter-intuitive, but it's easier to play. There's a relationship between neck thickness and nut width and string spacing at the bridge. It's all interrelated, these three specifications. Change just one, and suddenly your favorite neck isn't your favorite anymore.

Warmoth Deluxe V necks are Asymmetric. A slight Asymmetric shape is fine, but I don't like the extreme version that Mike is using on his Kingston line. (MTD) Too much hump on the bass side and feels unnatural, but I grew up on Fenders like everyone else, and prefer something more traditional.

I dig a moderate C shape the best.

to this date... the best, smallest, fastest neck was my Ibanez SR3000 4 string prestige SoundGear... just a phenomenal neck. I am now endorsed by Warwick and have a bass being made in germany from their custom shop. they have an option on their customs for "extra slim neck" So I ordered that! we shall see!

I owened a Tobias Growler years ago.. and it was an assymetric neck... and I hated it. Alsmost took it to a luthier to have it shaved down... just annoying with my playing style.

I hear ya. When I get a new neck from Warmoth I attack it with electric sander and hand sand as well until it's a C shape. Everyone who plays it afterwards likes the feel, AND, I leave the neck on the thick side overall. Feels great.
