Neck Sanding

I have an MIM P-Bass that has a rough neck. The wood inset on the back of the neck was poorly done and there is a noticible edge to it. It doesn't really bother me at first but after a little while of playing it is distracting. Is there a good thread about re-sanding the back of the neck and re-finishing? Thanks in advance.

Don't use steel wool unless you remove the neck and keep it away from the body; you don't want wool shavings getting around your pickups/electronics.

A well-worn and pliable ScotchBrite pad can knock-down any unevenness. Slightly more time consuming but you'll be less likely to remove too much of the finish in the process. Works well on multi-lams and certain oil / wax finished necks. A perfect example would be the 3 piece wenge neck on my Warwick Streamer.

If using steel wool, quarantine your pickups and elex: saran wrap, tape, whatever.
