Double Bass Need 190mm width bridge!

They quote a 3 month wait, so that may well be. Their Link Removed is still up though.

IMO quite a few smart ideas in that concept, but the style & material takes some getting used to. For the OP the width is also an issue.

Well...you may recall having sent me a customer from facebook...who wanted a deuce bridge fit on his bass. He had purchased the bridge himself, and it was untouched.

The adjustment wheels stripped out, just after I completed the fitting (grrrr...), so I had to contact the manufacturer and try to obtain replacements. They had supposedly come with a lifetime guarantee, and they stripped the first time they were used...but I still had to buy the new ones. No discount, no nothing. Last time for me. :-(

The customer was fine, it was just the company from whom the bridge was obtained. That's OK...it sounds as though he was having a rough time, so I forgive him...but I'm still not "going back for seconds." :-) I will stick to traditional wooden bridges now.

Hi,
Have not been having luck finding a bridge with a width of 190mm and so am reaching out for help! Despau (sp!) sent their widest, which was not wide enough; Robertsons said they have nothing in the ballpark, Teller in Germany seems unresponsive to my luthiers requests.

Am trying to have the bridge feet sit appropriately on the top table for best sound and response; currently, the bridge bass bar side does not reach the bar, never mind sit on top of it.

Any ideas or direction would be sincerely appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey how did it work out-did you find the bridge?

Hi,
Again thank you to everyone for your help & posts; after searching and calling around I was able to find a big old bridge with feet about 197mm apart. It is being fit to the bass as we speak, and will post something here when the results are in!

Hi,
Thomas Helton at Quantum Bass Center did a great job cutting, finishing, sanding, and fitting the new bridge. Combined with the new sound post placement, the instrument has gained a lot of width and subharmonic low spread. It plays and sounds beautifully, and seems to work organically overall in terms of its dimensions. I still need to put some time into it to get things moving, but am very pleased with the whole search, find, process, and end result. Thanks again!
Btw, had a good laugh at the Duece Bridge detour; glad that made it into the thread!

Hi,
No, it's really not that big; I would say it's a full 7/8. I'm 5'8" and can get around it okay. It's the sound of the big old box that is really cool; have definitely played much bigger basses of friends & colleagues. Sorry no chance for pics right now, have been traveling.
