Need a Decent Preamp

I absolutely love my sans amp paradriver DI. It's always on for me. Great clean and does the gritty well. It's on the upper end of your price point, but still hits the mark. I believe they are running around $250 at guitar center and musicians friend

+1

Love it, it kills as an electric bass pre (pedal), is a good DI, does grit, a little compression, and can handle 1 million (mega) ohm resistance piezoelectric pickups like the Gage Realist double bass pickup.

The parametric mids are flexible enough to do bass, violin, guitar, whatever. :hyper:

The Swiss Army Knife of sound. ART ProChannel II. Tube (drive), parametric eq, compression, full mic capabilities, a bunch of other things, and under $300. Even if it sounded like crap, with all those features, it's still great. But it *doesn't sound like crap. End of story.
