Need a little computer help - Warcraft 3

Yeah, I'm coming to a bass forum for computer help...

Basically, I've never seen an error this sort before in my life - all of my other games work fine. I tried loading WC3 for the first time in about a year last night, and got this error. I've got the latest patches and everything...

Oh, and I'm running on a P4 2.6, 512 Ram, Geforce 6200 machine. I know its weak these days, but it works for these games and I'm buildina new one soon.

The problem could be that you're running Vista ...

Just kidding, yes, it could be compatibility issues caused by Vista.

Like everyone else said, it's Vista. WC3 runs fine on my old 1GHz laptop with Windows 98, so it probably won't run on Vista.

It's a memory error. If it happens with a different programs as well you need new RAM. Otherwise, it's probably a compatability issue as others have said.

Hm, it worked fine before...wonder if its the theme...I wouldn't exactly be suprised, but its worth a shot. Nope, its not the theme, just tried...gar.

That used to happen to me after playing WCIII a long time without reopening it, when I had something like 512 MB RAM. Now I have 1.5 GB of RAM and that never happens to me. How much RAM do you have? (And yes I know that this is before even playing it, it still might be doing it because of that)

512. The weird thing is that its worked fine, and I just did a fresh format on this computer this morning hoping it would solve this.

Weird, I think setting it to OpenGL worked.

if you had it loaded before, the most likely thing is that there are still a few files hiding somewhere and they don't match up with the new load. completely scrap everything and start over. That means patches, updates, the lot.

P.S. did you try restarting the compy? that usually works.

This is why I don't install patches if the previous version worked fine. Anyway glad it's working - have you got the Frozen Throne expansion?

Yeah.

Repatched and fresh install of both OS and the game. Its weird that I had to set it to OpenGL, I didn't even know that was possible.

I can only get 16 bit resolution vs 32, but whatever. I can't tell the difference

depends what processor you got

Meh, my next laptop will probably beat that. Waiting for Santa Rosa, but right now I could get a T7200, 2 gigs Ram, X1700 Asus system for ~ 1400. Problem is the battery life...I don't know if I want like 8 hours (Dell's e1405, integrated video) or a good video card...and bad battery life.

fwiw I play WarcraftIII on a Vista laptop with no problems. The error shown above is a memory error.
