Need a loud amp that isn't big

I know what you're talking about. It was about two year's ago I guess. I was in the same situation playing almost everything from death metal, rock, blues to world music and easy listening jazz. And I didn't want to drag my Trace Elliot RAH600SMX with 8x12" around any more.

My solution: 800 watts in a 40 lbs. package with the Acoustic Image Focus II and the Schroeder 1212 light. Since this day on I'm dancing through the streets again, light as a feather.
And I can make it sound raw as a chainsaw and sweeter than the hottest butter......

The details:
Sansamp RBI output into channel 2 of my AI Focus II, the clean signal form the RBI into channel 1. Send channel 1 goes through the Yamaha SPX1000 left channel and the Aphex 204 Aural Exciter for fattening the sound. And send channel 2 goes through the right channels of these two.

In this way I can mix the overdrive from the RBI with the clean signal. I cannot think of anything better.

I'd say spend some time with the search function, and second the sentiment about getting one of your parents to spend some time asking some questions around here as well.

There are a lot of light cabs out there now that not only are light but have high power ratings. You may want to look into something with neo drivers.

You don't have to spend 3 grand to have a high powered, loud and light rig.

Right now I'm in a metal band using two Avatar B410 Neos which have a 1000 watt RMS and weigh 65lbs, a Carvin HD1800 which puts out 1800 watts @ 4 ohms bridged and only weighs 26lbs, and a Fender TBP-1 which is a tube pre amp and has the ability to dial in some nice tube grit.

I got all that for about $1400 US.

I would also say look into some of the custom builders which will get you boutique quality at a non-boutique price, such as LDS http://www.lowdownsound.com Great guys to deal with, will answere any questions you have and with a good description of what you want all around out of the cab will give you all sorts of options.

Also check into Dr Bass http://www.drbasscabs.com Great price, great weight, and great quality.

All of these will hold their value and are of great quality at a lower price point and rival many "name brand" manufactuers if not exceed.

Take your time, choose carefully. Go to shops and play different configurations.

You're 13 and have a lot of time to find out what you like, so don't automatically put your eggs in one expensive basket. Odds are, your taste buds will change as the time passes.

If time is not at issue, I would build (or have built) a Bill Fitzmaurice Omni 10 (using the 2x10 option). I have heard that these are really, really loud and still clean, allowing you to color your tone as you see fit using preamp, effects, etc.

I would also give a huge +1 to Dr. Bass. I have a BL2260 (now called the 2460) and I love mine. It is heavier than the BFM Omni 10, and probably not quite as loud (102 dB vs. 105 dB for the Omni 10), but still an awsome cab.

I tend to agree with this sentiment. First, if you are actually 13 where the heck do you get your money!?!?!? And, secondly, there is NEVER a rush. As others have stated...take your time....if, in reality, you have that kind of money to burn...you can choose from a myriad of different combinations..but YOU choose! Don't take anyone's advice here as gospel. These different suggestions are from both THEIR experiences, as well as mine. Again, what works for me - may or may not work for you.


And, yes....Randall Flagg is, indeed, a character in a Stephen King novel entitled "The Stand" which, again, begs the question: "What the heck is a 13 year old doing reading something so.....dark"??????

Well I read it last year, so technically I was 12 at the time but to answer your question I just like that genre. I'm not some kind of psycho like the other guy suggested, I just tend to like books in that genre. The Shining was probably one of my favorite books of all time, as is The Stand.

Back on topic, I will be spending a LOT of time trying out different things and evaluating what works best for me. I am in no hurry to buy so I will be checking out various brands of heads and cabinets. Ampeg just jumps out at me because of how world-renowned they are. Gallien Krueger I've been a fan of for quite some time.

Yeah, that pretty much scared me from advancing in fictional literature. Since then there has been few fictional tales that have kept my interest. I have yet to be entertained by any post-apocolyptic writtings since! I've yet to see the movie. Hey gimme a break, I grew up on films like Soylent Green, and the whole Planet of the Apes thing!

HAW!! I know the feeling! I would suggest the movie (It's a 4 part "made for TV" deal) and done fairly well....most Blockbusters have it or can get it for you.

OK....some have asked "why Randall Flagg", so here goes: I was lucky enough to meet Stephen King back in 1980 at a party. We talked about the book and he gave me a signed first edition copy. That's pretty much it....except that it is one of my most prized possessions.....

For a blendable grit-i recommend a SansAmp RPM mated with a power amp of your choice. Light weight? A Stewart World 600 or another one of theirs is an option of if you want light.

Cabs? Maybe an Avatar B212 Neo? When i think of metal, i think of a few big speakers [e.g. 2X12s] or lots of little ones [4X10 or 8X10]. Some sort of neo 1X12 or 2X10 cabinet would be pretty small & light yet put out decent volume.

For the bulk of my high school years i used a Carvin DCM2000 power amp, SansAmp RBI & RPM, into an Avatar B212. Wasn't light, but it had a great sound and since i drove-i wasn't worried about taking it all in on one trip [then i discovered the miracle of a hand truck].

I found this really cool Ampeg head, it's like enormous, I think it was an SVT and this cabinet that's called I think an Ampeg "B". Since I know nothing about the cabinet, can somebody tell me about it?
