Need a new 5 string

Hey, I am really considering buying a 5 string. I have seen some very nice ones but im tight on money at the moment, so I had a question what would be a good quality 5 string bass for $300-$500.

I've already seen one I liked but didn't get a chance to play it. ESP B-155, so any information regarding that bass would be appreciated .

If you are comfortable with ebay its a great place to get basses most of the time. www.craigslist.com can help you get lucky sometimes too.

The TBC basses have a lot of fans around here, and are easily in that price range.

+1 on a used Lakland 55-01, too, if you can find one in good shape.

Hey, I forgot to mention I play rock music. Thanks for the suggestions so far still looking for the right one . I guess my main question right now is, is the B-155 any good?

I can't comment on the B-155.
However, I'll give a nice +1 to T.B.C. basses. AP-500MM will set you back a handy $440 or so, but be worth every penny. Very coold basses, IMO. I strongly suggest you check one out.

+1 on the 55-01. I have one and love it. You get $1000.00 sound for a good price and if you decide to upgrade you have several options to go with.

The 01 series is great for upgrading. I think itd be awesome to put nordstrand pups in there (same size i believe) and an aguilar pre.

I rock out the AP-500MM in metal/heavy rock bands day in and day out. I love it. Sold my Spector after I got it, because it replaced it .

I just tried out one of those Squire Deluxe Jazz Vs last night, and I was pretty impressed. It had a pretty nice feel, although the neck was a bit chunky (take that with a grain of salt, I haven't played fivers consistently for over two years). The electronics seemed to do their job, and there was a pretty good range of sounds to be had. I wasn't really impressed with the slap switch, though. It sounded good with the switch engaged, but there was an immediate volume difference between the two modes, and the standard mode seemed to lack a lot of clarity.

TBCs are also great basses if you can still find one. I have an AP-400M and I really like it.

My AP-500MM was $440 shipped to my door, brand new.

You may try to find a used Conklin GT-5 in that price as well. I had one a while back and liked it as well as several other people I know.

New a 55-01 is around 700.00 but you can pick them up used for aroun 500.00. I think I saw one sell a couple months ago for around 450.00
