Ok so i need to buy a new bass,the thing is im really picky.I hate all those fenders,sadosky,etc...basically your typical lloking jazz/p basses.

Im currently considering a carvin lb/bb 75 fretless.but the thing that pissing me about it that strings going through the body bridge.

warwick corvette also seems like a good option,but i want to check out other basses aswell and see what options are available.

what i want is bassically a swamp ash body,ebony/maple fretboard
and a 5 string fretless,preferably a neck through.I dont not want any top on it unless its cocobolo or buckeye.

Id love to go for a custom like mtd,roscoe,ken smith or any other but my price range is about $ 1000-1500.

so what should i do.

The Hipshot A-style bridge allows "through the body" or "top load" stringing.

On my LB75F, per my request, it does not the bridge holes to load strings through the body. It has been years since I ordered the bass, but I am sure that Carvin will still provide the aforementioned option, if requested.

If ever there was a candidate for a Invalid Link Removed, you're it. You can definitely get a 5-string ebony board neck-thru fretless with your choice of pickups made to order in the USA well within your budget. I know, because I've just tried a few different LB75 fretless designs with plain tops through their online profiler and I always came out around $1100-1200, and that's with case and asymmetrical neck profile. One configuration had a piezo and humbuckers for blending; word is that this is the way to get the best acoustic sound (if you're looking for that).

Your only (and I mean only) sticking point here would be the Hipshot thru-body bridge, but Carvin's standard issue A-style Hipshot bridge does string-thru or top load:

See the slots at the end? You can anchor the strings' ball ends there ON TOP instead of through the body.

JohnnyB53 is right - the Carvin bridge will allow string through or top loading of strings - I just got a fretted LB70 and it came top loaded (their roundwound strings are nice too). The quality is great, many choices of pickups, wood, etc. and it will be less than $1500 unless you go crazy on the options (figured tops etc.)

thanx for all the replies guys.its great to hear that theres a top load option,coz on thier site all of the basses have string through body bridge.

Roger morillo basses look quite good,will check that out aswell.

Along with that I saw tom clement aswell,i think i might just be a ble to squeeze that in or mike dolan bass.

This thread puzzles me.

The OP indicates *one* problem with his current bass - a problem that is often called a "Feature" by bassists - a problem that can very easily be addressed by replacing his bridge.

So why "need" a new bass? He doesn't "need" a new bass - he *wants* a new bass - and he appears to want the a Porsche for the price of a Toyota.

Well, to him I say:First, try a new bridge. Save your $$ and you'll be happier in the long run. Second, if you really want a new bass, then watch Ebay or the TB classifieds -- for $1500 you *can* get a really nice bass, you just have to be willing to go used and be PATIENT.

It's the same bridge, but you can string it either way--top load or string thru. The option occurs when you have the strings in your hand and decide where to put the ball ends, not when you order the bridge.
