Need a replacement for Wonderful Tonight

As my new band puts together a new song list, I've drawn a line in the sand and have refused to play Wonderful Tonight. I don't care if it's a guaranteed a**-grabber, I'm tapping out. Any suggestions for a slow dance ballad that fits in a predominantly mid-80's and newer alt/modern rock set list? I'd even venture into new country if it's a sure thing.

In my experience, when members start to refuse to play songs, the road to being replaced begins. In a cover band, you're playing for the audience, not you.

We fooled around with "500 Miles" at a few rehearsals and decided to perform it one night. Crowd loved it. It became part of our setlist. If I had to guess, I'd say people liked it because it's not overplayed, its intro is recognizable (maybe in an "I remember this from somewhere" vibe), and depending on your frontman, one of the top call & response parts I've seen.

Ha, our guitarist makes the most of the call and response for sure.

It has become a favorite joke with the band and our regular followers that I hate it so much. So we get mileage just for that. I'll play it for the crowd response, at least I never have to practice it!
