Buyer's remorse? Yeah, I don't think so. I think I'm gonna be very happy with my new Klipsch towers, which seem like a significant upgrade from my old Cerwin-Vegas. And even if I didn't get anything for the old speakers, I feel like I got (many times) my money's worth out of them. In this case I don't mind being "that guy" who buys expensive stuff new rather than seeking out the best deals on used equipment. (Most of my basses and other gear were purchased used, but the things I've bought new -- like the Fender 60th-anniversary bass I bought the year it came out -- have proven to be worth it.)
So far I've only tested the new speakers with (a) the first half of The Dark Side of the Moon, (b) a mix-CD of "cool" Christmas songs spanning a diverse array of genres and instrumentation, and (3) the second half of The Wizard of Oz, which just happened to be on TV at the time. My initial impressions: These things have every bit as much bottom end as the CVs -- which are definitely "rock" speakers that tend toward "boomy" -- but that bottom end is more focused. At the same time, the mids and highs are clearer and sound more "alive." I listened to everything with all the amp controls flat, so I haven't yet explored what a little EQing might do. (With the CVs, I often found that I had to turn the bass control down a bit to control boominess.) I get a sense that they really would like to have a little more power -- I feel like a bit as if I'm driving a Ferrari at 55 mph -- but I'I'm not sure why, as pushing the amp volume to noon (i.e., half-way) gives me as much volume as I think I'll ever need.
