need advice on comp\limiters

hello all, I'm looking for opinions on a bass good comp\limiter. I'm strictly a finger player, and need something to help keep the volume consistent for live gigs.

I currently use a geddy lee fender (and of course a ricky) looking for something to help with metal and iron maiden steve harris....
Keeping the volume consistent seems to be a good option when these old hands get tired thx!

Ovnilab is an awesome site so definitely check there first.

Here's my US$.02. I also play fingerstyle metal. I use an MXR Bass comp, as do a number of other people here. It's a nice transparent compressor- does very little but even out the volume on your bass with minimal changes to the tone (unless you really crank the knobs). Since metal bass shouldn't be really squashed sounding, I think it's a very good fit.

EBS MultiComp is my favorite. I like being able to adjust the compression for high end and low end seperately. I like very little on the low end and more on top.

Personally I like that DBX 160A comp. It's a rack mount though... I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for, a lot of people here know what their talking about

I'm personally having a GAS for the Empress compressor. Looks really great and Bongo's review says so aswell.

It's the same kind as the MXR bass comp but it looks even more efficient. Though it's bigger.

Yup, that' s the place to start with. If budget is an issue or a comp/limiter is not the pedal you wish to shell out a lot of $$$, the Boss LMB-3 is an interesting option, selling used for about 50 $. All the above-mentionned comps are great pedals as well.
