I have to get some new strings for practice tonight, otherwise I would wait and order online.

So, Dunlop Stainless Steel Bass Strings, Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Bass Strings, D'Addario XL ProSteels Bass Strings, or Fender Nickel Plated Steel Super 7250s?

I have already decided that the price diff isn't too much to prevent me from shopping local rather than Guitar Denter. But, the local shop doesn't have anything else I would buy. They don't carry any basses/amps I would want. I play bass in a metal/punk fusion type band. Think Suicidal Tendencies and DRI. I like light guage strings.

What would you pick? Thanks for your help.

I know for a fact that the 7250 NPS Fenders are 99.99% of the same sound qualities as the (very inexpensive) ROTO RB45 strings.

At least REAL Fender 7250s are - I cannot vouch for the latest change to in-house manufacturing of 7250s that they put on their basses at the mo.

The others you list are SS, and I don't see the parallel and a comparison including them is at best, strained a little.

You saying these are overpriced because they say Fender?

I didn't see that my local shop carried SS Fenders so, I just threw those in. This may be a long term string and I know Nickels should last a little longer. Plus they were in my price range, hence them being on the list. I don't have a lot of experience using Nickels, thats why I listed the guage I like(lights), and the style of music I play (Metal/Punk) so that someone with a little more knowledge than me can chime in and tell me why they would choose one string over the other.

Any other concerns that I may address? Oh yeah, incase you didn't look at my profile these will be for my 4 string Jazz.

I also have a budget... When I go to buy some nicer strings, I'll spend some bread. I just need something to get me by for now.

And FunkMetalBassist, I plan on checking out those Circle K strings as soon as I can.

If my local Guitar Denter carried the musician's gear crap, I'd be buying them today. I don't really want to spend a lot of cash on an inferior string.

...or unless you have no strings on your bass, you could use what you have for the one practice and order online and get what you want. Again, considering you have stings on your bass to begin with...

Not saying that the Fenders are too high-priced - just that they are so all-over-the-place for quality or tone that they appear to be from a multitude of makers and even some are from Fender/Mexico in the MiM plant.

If variety is the spice of life, then buying Fender 7250s should keep you in cayenne pepper.

But - I noticed you had a mixed bag of strings posted that I didn't understand having NPS and SS in the same list.

NPS has a much more mellow and less zing than SS strings - and SS is really are not something I like to play for their sonically offensive reasons to me.

I dislike the 7250s on everything but my new VM-Jaguar - and that may change soon too.

But I want to put the ROTO 45s on for a while to see if I can generate some love for them - but my experience is that the 45s are sonically extremely similar to the current crop of 7250s in too many ways to list.

I always keep some 45s in my git-kit for any other people or even me if someone should even need to change out a set of string (has never happened to me in 47+ years) - but who knows! Each day has a new set of setbacks and circumstances.

Chances of another bass player showing up where I'm playing are pretty slim though.

It's okay. We all need our morning fix.

I've stopped caffeine in the mornings. I just try to ride out my work day without caffeine. However, at 3pm, I get a cup of coffee so that my brain is actually awake for classes that night.
