Need Advice Today

I wouldn't choose any SS string for my StingRay, as I discovered D'Addario XL nickels sound the best on an otherwise inherently bright bass. Now, back when I played all those 70's Fender P's and J's, I felt that Rotosound SS's sounded the best. When I was playing an Ibanez Soundgear 890, it was DR strings all the way.

My point is that, IME, different basses called for entirely different strings to sound good. Fender, EB and GHS have always been my least favorites because for one, I've had them to string up dead right out of the pack. Two, I've managed to break or unravel the G string at the ball while stretching them out during installation.

But if I'm trying to find "the" set for a new bass, I'll give anything a whirl.

The life of the strings still baffles me. I've had them on my 8-string for almost 2 months now, and they sound just a little bit broken in even after regular play. They easily last twice as long as other strings I've tried.

When I order a set for my Spector 6-string, I'll do some recordings with my Fodera strings, and then another recording with my Circle Ks. Some comparison is better than none, right?

A sound check would be nice.

What irks me - besides my indecision here ..........

.........is that I really REALLY like the Elixir Nanos and that I shouldn't be gassing over strings - as I feel with the spare ROTO RS45s and another few sets of very slightly used Fender 7250 NPSs, I should be set for life.

That's not even talkin' about the ROTO 77s I have on one bass and another set still in the box.

But that's not the case.
