Need Bass Advice!

Hey guys, I've been playing bass for around 2 years now, and consider myself to be a somewhat-talented bassist. I mostly play rock but I venture into all kinds of music. Currently I have a Squire p-bass and a Gibson thunderbird. Now, while I love my thunderbird dearly, it's time for me to try new things. The 4 basses I got my eyes on is the Fender American p-bass and jazz bass, and the musicman stingray/sterling. While playing the stingray and the sterling, I lean tone-wise more towards the stingray, but the neck is a pretty major bummer for me, while the sterling has a nicer narrow neck. I've also heard the stingray is ALOT heavier, but this is not something I noticed while playing them (input?). One thing that's a shame about the sterling is I'm having a hard time finding it in the color I want. Other than Guitar Center, musiciansfriend.com, ebay, and craigslist, where else would be a good place to look?

Any advice/input/comments/help would be immensely appreciated. Thanks guys! :bassist:

i'll go ahead and put a plug in for fender. i play a fender geddy lee jazz bass and love it. i play in a rock band and it does a great job giving me the punch i need and the neck is suuuper slim and plays like butter. the geddy lees also seem to have a more punchy/almost overdriven tone that really set them apart. really i think it comes down to whether you want a nice vintage passive tone or a more crisp active tone (both can be good for rock, just depends on personal preference). i love playing fenders for rock but you see lots of musicmans out there too.
