If it's the Japanese PJ Jazz Special with the body cavity (looks to be so), I'd say it's legit. Just looked on Google images for others. Looks as if the T shaped tuners were originally black on that model. Micro tilt on the neck plate is useful for if you need to shim, too.

I have found these...

Legit.
I'd be a bit concerned about the removal of the serial number. It's not uncommon to see the "made in Japan" scratched off, just the serial number makes me wonder if the bass was stolen at one point in time. Probably not a big deal but it should have an effect on the value somewhat.

You beat me to the stolen possability. The only 2 reasons I can see for a removed serial is 1-stolen and 2-refurbished. Gibson stamps "USED" on factory 2nds (b stock) and can be bought by employees whereas Fender destroys the serial. You can find some on ebay that people sell as refurbished and generally have a sticker on back of peghead with a home made serial on it

Yeah, I'd say that's a big red flag - I'd ask the seller what's up with that, whether that's how it was when they got it.

Noticed that too.especially since the price is a steal (pun intended) lol..
the owner being a lawyer calmed me a bit though..
You must have had rather different experiences with lawyers than I have! :roflmao: (No offense to any lawyer bassists out there.)
