Need help buying an amp.

Hey there TB I'm just starting out playing my bass been at it for a couple months now and I'm looking to buy a new amp for around 400 bucks. I was wondering if there is any reason not to get this " http://www.guitarcenter.com/Acousti...250W-1x15-Bass-Cab-Package-796570-i1415333.gc " While it is a bit more than the combo from them that seems about the same I figured I'd be able to upgrade this later on down the road. Is there something better I should get for ~$400

thanks in advance
~Holland

I should have said that the 400 is store credit to GC. I took back an ampeg BA115, it was terrible.

I'm a noob when it comes to this kind of stuff, is the head better than the cab or is the cab better than the head?

How much power would I be losing? Is it a waste to buy that?

As to the GK, isn't it more of a sound preference when it comes to different brands? I played that GK in the shop and thought it sounded nice when I turned the horn off but it didn't have as many EQ controls as the acoustic.

I'd be willing to go around $500 if it'd benefit me more in the long run

Not a bad deal. But if you're looking for 200 watts you wont get it with that cabinet. The amp puts out 200 watts at 4 ohms. The cab is rated at 8 ohms. Serious power loss but still plenty for practice and small gigs.

You can always add another cab later.

It's similar to several of the custom combos being purchased by other TB'rs through LDS: 1 Buying a combo
