Need help choosing effects.

Hi guys I need help with effects I want to start working with them to create my own unique style,but I dont know if I should buy single effects or multi effects like the boss gt 10b and if I should buy either one of them what other things should I buy aswell.Like if single effect is better than what pedals should I buy, and if i buy a multi effect like boss gt10b is the sound quality good and what else can I add to it other than a volume pedal.

If you guys could give me a list of pedals or other effect equipment please do, add anything you think that would give me as much effect as needed to do just about every sound, and it can be a expensive list aswell money is not a problem as I have been saving up for this.

The most inportant question is what style of music do you play and what sounds are you trying to acheive with pedals?

Can you name some bands you like the sounds of?

This will help with particular pedals. I am not a fan of multi effects units, they severly limit what you can do later.

Types of pedals varies, but here is a list to give you soemthing to search off of.

I've said it once and I'll say it again:

Go to your local music store and demo pedals there. Ask yourself "how often will I use this pedal," "how adjustable/flexible can I be with this," and "will I want this to color my sound?"

Just FYI, playing through a ton of effects is not a unique style, and hasn't been one since the early 1970's. More importantly, each effect does something different to your sound, so you need to experiment with all of them in order to find out which ones motivate you in any way whatsoever. You might as well post "I need help with musical instruments, I want to create my own unique style so list all of the musical instruments for me".

You picked bass. Why? The answer to that question should be the answer to why you pick any effects device. You heard it--it was cool--you wanted to do the same.

You have $10,000 ready to burn? Sweet!

(If you think I'm joking, start looking through the pedalboard threads, and do some research about what some of these setups would cost - don't forget cables and power supplies!)

Now, trot on down to your local mega-effects-mart (aka music store), grab a bass similar to your own, park yourself in front of the pedal display, and try out everything they have. Twist knobs, combine different effects together, and make as many different noises as you can. When you find something you like the sound of, buy it.

to get an idea of what each effect does and how you can use in your sound situation... then once you have decided what kinds off effects you like go for the individual pedals that give you the best results.....

I have a suggestion:

Find an affordable/used multieffect...bonus points for one that sounds great.

See what you like on it.

If you feel the need for other pedals, you should be able to get a decent return on the multi board.

Demoing in store is a great suggestion but not always comfortable or feasible.
