Need help deciding on a 6-string bass

I'm looking to buy a 6-string bass and I don't know what to go for. The type of music I'd be playing would Dream Theater and Beyond Creation, really heavy bands that don't necessarily use distortion on their basses. Any ideas/suggestions on what I should go for? I'm currently looking at a Ibanez BTB676.

That is an excellent choice. I use a bolt-on Ibanez BTB myself I have also heard good things about the second John Myung sig bass from Yamaha, the RBXJM2.

I used to talk poopie about Ibanez's SR basses, particularly the SR506, but after playing a nice used one at Guitar Center I relinquish most of what I said. The BTB will probably be a bit easier to play, though, due to wider string spacing.

if you like heavy metal (obscura, beyond creation, spawn of possession) and want a clean clear sound driving the distorted guitar

may i suggest the LTD b 406, neck is flat and not to wide for a 6 string, EMG pup are very clear and still have a growl sound without it becomes fuzzy so you can maintaine a clean sound. Evan Brewer of the faceless used one for ages.

Ben my budget is probably about 800-ish euro and I currently have an Ibanez SR505 and I'm happy with it.
I'm looking for ease-of-play as much as versatility if at all possible.
And I just had a look at the B-406 and it looks like an absolute monster (In a good way)

yeah a mate in a local band has one, he also has the premium series BTB bass 6 string and i gotta say, it just slays it. The EMG pickups and preamp just pump so hard. I also noticed when they played in in Aus that the bassist of Dying fetus also uses one (but the 4 string) model.

Sean normally plays a B-1004 but the B416 is still a great bass though.

Now it's just a case of finding somewhere that has it in stock and will deliver to Ireland

gak have a B416 in stock Invalid Link Removed
