Need help finding a head for my Aguilar GS410 Cab

Hello all,

Ill just start by saying I'm a newbie when if comes to putting together a rig.

I was playing threw someone else's old rig that is way underpowered IMO (200w GK head on a 400w Hartke 410 cab). I was having an issue cutting through on the highs. And my band was asking me to play things differently due to it not cutting threw. Id rather get all new gear than change how I play.

So. I found an insane deal on a Aguilar GS 410 cab (back says700w 8ohm). I couldn't pass it up. The guy also had the 115 to go with it for stupid cheap but I could afford it, and I don't need a rig that big yet.

So I come to find out I'm kinda screwed on a head because it has to be a decent size to push that kinda of power at 8 ohms.

I guess I'm looking for advice on how much power I really need to get a full sound out of this cab. Ie how may watts am I going to need? Am I going to need 700w+ or will 400w do?

I'm interested in the EBS and the Eden amps. Or so I think so. I like the slap tone on the EBS, or at least what Ive heard on youtube.

I'm currently playing a 4 string Flea Modulus.

Last question. My Aguilar cab has 2 holes in the back. I was reading someone else's post saying if your using a 4ohm head to run both outputs to the cab and the cab will run at 4 ohm. Is that true?

I would stay away from Eden with that cab, that didn't work for me when I tried it. The GS410 likes lots of clean power so it works well with a PA style power amp and a good tube pre. What you go with on this depends greatly on your budget. If it was a 4ohm cab I'd say AG500, but with an 8 ohm cab I don't think it will be powerful enough.

No, that's not true. Don't do that.
There's no such thing as a "4 ohm head" anyway; we're talking about the impedance that the speakers present to the amplifier. An 8 ohm cabinet presents 8 ohms of resistance to an amplifier and that's that. Amplifiers are designed to be able to operate safely into a certain minimum impedance, below which the amplifier gets fried.
As RickenBoogie said, if you want to offer a 4 ohm load to your amplifier and draw more juice out of it then you add another 8 ohm cabinet; of course, the extra wattage is now being split between two cabinets instead of going into one. That's why some people go for 4 ohm cabinets if they're only going to use one cab, so they can put the most wattage into them.

Definetly not!
Unless you like explosions.

The extra connection is for running another cab.

My recommedation would be 500 clean watts and a preamp.

Something like this:

That's 900 watts @ 4 ohms.

450 watts per cab @ 8 ohms.

It will totally get the job done...

If you're looking for the ultimate head for the GS410 it is the Aguilar DB750.

Next in line would be either of the AG500's.

I've played these rigs and can tell you they are simply outstanding.

You might also checkout Carvin B1500, B800 or BX500...

Despite the no Eden advice. I going to look at one tonight. I need a head asap for shows. I'll change it out later. The Eden is a wt800b. It's perfect on power. I can pick it up for $650. Which seems like a great deal. I curious what the issue with the Eden aguilar combo?

I'd really love to have the DB750. But it's too much money for me right now.

Might work fine for you, I just thought the voicings were fighting each other and it wasn't an ideal match. If you go that way, I'd leave the enchance OFF, since that knob seems to be designed to EQ out the low mid hump the Eden XLT cabs have, and the GS410 definitely does not. Try boosting low mids and cutting a bit of upper mids.

I don't think you'd have any issues with an Eden head and that cab. Plenty of guys have Eden/Aggie rigs and love them.

The WT800B should work very nicely with that cab. Try it foryourself and see what your ears tell you.

Hey all,

I ended up getting the Eden head. I meet the guy at a guitar center and tried the amp out on a ampeg cab and a MTD bass. Sounded amazing!!!!

Come to find out when I get home and have done a little research, the head is not a B, its an A. Kind of a bummer. Or at least I think its an A. It doesn't have the speakon outputs. Just banana clips. He did tell me that it went back to Eden for a work over. There is a sticker on the back that shows they did.

Do any of you think its possible that it was upgraded to be bridged into 4 ohms??

Yes, that is possible.
There were upgrades available from A to B model.

I can't think of the other 3 numbers off the top of my head.

I haven't plugged into my cab yet, but I will tonight.

I did play the head with my headphones for a few min last night.
The headphones jack is messed up. If I put the connector in all the way it, sound only comes out of one side.

And I think the enhance knob is broke. I can turn the knob anywhere and there is no change in sound. ***? If I wiggle the pod around it's scrachy and I get a tone change for a milisecond. I'm hoping it's me not hearing a change threw the headphones. And I will threw my cab, but I'm doubting it.

How sensitive is the enhance knob???

I think I got ripped the F off. Looks like this may have to go back to Eden.
*** is wrong with people???!!! :(
