Hi,
I got this bass a while back to have a project to work on (fix sunken top, new neck etc.) but I really don't know what it is. It is a laminated bass with reinforced edges and originally it had a ebonized neck.
The proportions are a bit odd:
Upper bout 54 cm
Lower bout 69 cm
Body length 107 cm
So as you can see it is a very wide instrument (both upper and lower bout are 5 cm bigger than my other 3/4 bass) and in my eyes I think it looks a bit disproportionate (read: ugly).
Someone said it looked Russian, but I don't know. The only history I know of is that it was used in a dance orchestra from 1950-1980 in the northern part of Norway, which strenghten the theory of it being from Russia.
