Need help with a 'RICK purchase ... ASAP

Every Rick I've played yet sounds and feels like only a Rickenbacker does. Still, everyone of them had a unique sound to it.

Strings and setup can make a huge difference, but I found Rickenbackers to be very sensitive to pickup height. Whatever makes the difference, imo you have to get your hands on the Instrument before buying, or it will basically be a draw of luck.

Don't know if you've made a move already, but MF has them at 10% off right now. That plus 8% in rewards for future purchases. That should put you at less than the used prices you're looking at. When I bought mine it was 10% off but they later came out with a valid 15% coupon and I called them and received the difference.

I haven't made a move yet ... Thanks for this info.

I didn't read everything, so maybe it's been said already, but today I have major GAS for a simple Fender American Professional Jazz and I'm looking to dump my Ric because of it. I wanted a Ric for years, despite having never played one. I bought a 1981 Jet Glo 4001 from eBay last year, despite everyone's warnings, and it simply isn't for me. last night I played a friend's 2016 Fender American Standard Jazz and it felt SO RIGHT in my hands that I can't think of anything else today and I want this Ric out of my life immediately. I don't regret buying the Ric, because now I know, but I do want to get rid of it because I found something my hands like better. Just my two cents.

Just to fill you in.... 10 days ago I was on the cusp regarding buying a used 4003 so I put this thread up to get some feedback ..... long story short, my new 4003 was delivered this morning. Had you seen this thread 10 days ago, I might have been persuaded to take that Rick off your hands. But I certainly do understand LOVING J basses, just look at my signature below :-)

Bro, If you can swing it, then buy one. IMO, a Good Fender Jazz bass is absolutely still one of the best sounding, reliable, Iconic basses ever built. Good luck to you.

Been there and done that......Got three Rics sitting in their cases as we speak. Rarely ever play them, but am extremely hesitant to get rid of them... :)
