i own a Cort Action bass (cheapo). I was thinking of buying a set of heavy gauge strings (50-110). Since my bass is cheap and has a reasonably thin neck profile- Will my bass's neck handle the bigger tension? It comes with mediums (45-105), but I still want to know if it can handle it. Another thing- Will i have to widen the nut slot? Thank you for your help!

When it comes to the nut : Yes you will have to widen it. If you don't then the strings lay too high on the nut and of course too far above the fretboard causing either terrible fretbuzz or having a hard time getting a good tone from your strings.

I don't think you have to worry that much about the neck, as long as you tweek it about once a week you should be fine
