Need help with sax

I love the tenor sax. I haven't played alto since high school. IMHO the tenor sounds much better than the alto. Deeper and fuller.

A student model is designed to be easy to get a note out of. The tone will not be as good and, more importantly, the intonation will not be as good. They also generally do not have as nice a touch. But now I am getting *very* subjective.

I assume you meant that the sax cost a lot of money. You can get a really good mouthpiece for $100 or so used.

I paid about $1,200 for it new in 1990. The mouthpiece is an Otto Link Super Tone Master 7*.

interesting. By the way thats a nice horn. Well i guess I could take in consideration that expenisve to my dad, prob be cheap to us. I guess I could look it up on the net when i see it again. Hmm well the way you described the student model makes sense. Hard to tune. And sound isnt all that good. Again I know my embacure goes into play there as well. And yes the tenor sounds way cooler. Ive been practicing my butt off. Ill be looking forward to eventualy stepping up the quality of my horn. By the way the better models are described.

make sure your airway is clear... especially for that style of music... when I'm playing that style I'll really push the air out from my stomach, it helps really vibrate those low notes.

One day, my bari had some of the same problems, it jumped octaves and wouldn't go below an E. It turns out someone had bumped it and bent the cover over the Eb pad. When I hit the key, the pad got stuck in the open position. I would suggest looking over your horn carefully and see if anything dosn't look like it is where it should be.
