Need Help with tap sustain!

So i've learnt Victor Wooten's - The Vision, and im pretty comfortable with the song, i can play it quite easily but there is one part ( at about 3:50 in ) he taps on a note on his right hand and plays the bassline on his left hand, the note ( that had been tapped ) has quite a lot of sustain as he wiggles it, i cant seem to replicate that no matter how hard i try, is it because i'm playing the song through a combo practice amp ?

Remember to play tapped lines like a piano: don't remove your finger from the fret until you need to move it. Aside the technique, make sure your EQ and setup are optimal for tapping.

This. 99% of recorded bass has a compressor on it. I use one live too. You can barely touch a note and have it sustain for quite some time when using a good compressor.
