Me and my friend are trying to record a few tracks using a basic computer mic, a laptop, and the audacity program. We are recording the bass and guitar at the same time. The guitar comes through fine but my bass just sounds like a bunch of pops and cracks. Ive altered the way i play and moved the mic everyway i could think of. I dont know very much about recording so any help would be appreciated.

The problem is you're trying to record bass with a computer mic. They're not made for it. You might be able to get by with moving the mic further away from your amps and/or turning down.

Most likely you want to get an SM57 and a recording interface. You can sound a million times better for under $200. Look at something simple like a toneport UX1 to start.
