NEED HELP!

I recently purchased a jazz bass from craigslist, however, all of a sudden the saddles on the bridge broke off. I replaced the bridge with another one from allparts.com but it's making loude buzzing noise.

I also noticed that when i took the bridge off there was a wire coming from the body of the bass which was bassically layed under the bridge.

I don't know much about electric stuff but does this wire has something to do with the loud hum and buzz, and if so, what do i do next?

The wire is supposed to sit there in contact with the bridge. And you need a new bridge.

Lay the wire under the bridge when you put it on.

It grounds the strings, bridge, and tuners so that more of the buzz goes away when you're touching one of the three.
