Need insight for amp purchase

Hi all,
I'm tinking about trading in a yamaha stage drum set for a Roland D-Bass 500 with 1 12" speaker in it.

The drum set cost considerably more than the amp.
But I don't have many opportunities in the Oklahoma Ciy area to play drums. This hurts bad after playing professionaly for 20years.

That aside....

I'm playing bass. Have a really nice Fender jazz bass and I practise every day with headphones. So now the amp issue.

I'm won't be going on the road and will be mostly in the studio or, if fortunate enough to play live, probably in small venues.

I don't have any practical insight into bass amps and need your thoughts.

Is the D-Bass 500 a good choice for this trade? I've searched the web and found nothing on it. Not even at Rolands website.
I do see information on the D-bass 210 and 115 and 115x.

tia,
Todd

tia,
Todd

I've played through the 500 and I liked it. It was a bit underpowered and expensive and heavy for what I needed at the time so I didn't get one. But it did sound very good, the modeling was effective and I could get some nice sounds from it with a Fender P. There was one vintage type tube overdrive sound that was very good and the straight clean solid state sound was good too. Stuff like chorus doesn't interest me for bass but it was a good one. If you're only playing small rooms with other musicians at sane volume levels it'll do you good. I found it a bit awkward to carry because of the depth of the cabinet and the weight. But I'm getting older and won't put up with that kind of hassle any more.

As far as an even trade, I don't know. I'm not aware of how much drums sell for. You'll have to decide that.

Make sure you play through the amp and test out all the functions with your bass to make sure everything works as it should. You might be able to find an owner's manual on the Roland site. Read it through and get familiar with everything.

Honestly, I wouldn't sell the set unless you have others then I say go for it. But back to the topic. My friend has this amp and its bad a$$ but I've herd lot better ones. So I would just compare sounds before making a life changing decision like that. My 2 cents on that. Good Luck

Thanks to all repliers.

I finally found reviews (here actually) and price comparisons today. Also noticed the same amp for sale in the classifieds here at talkbass.com. $350!

So I'm keeping my drums. ya never know....

I think I'm going to hold out for what I really want.
Currently I'm G.A.S for the Roland D-Bass 210.

And the MTD Z bass.

If I had not bought a new TC Muzzle loader this fall with a flutted barrel, thumb hole stock, and a Nikon scope I'd own one today. Argh.

Thanks again,
Todd
