Need interface with good DAC

Since my firebox died, and im not sure if its under warranty, I would like to start searching for a potential new audio interface. I suppose it could be either firewire or usb, and I have a budget of around $150, and would be willing to buy used. Since all of my music listening is done with my computer as the source, I don't want to have to buy a separate DAC, if my audio interface can have a good one in it. I just need this for simple recordings, 2 simultaneous inputs is max what I would be using.

You should never need to buy a separate DAC unless you have a REAL reason for it, like you are a mastering engineer or super rich audiophile or similar!

When you buy an interface a lot of what you are paying for is the upgraded ADC's and DAC's, so if you buy a nice interface you will be getting what you need anyway and big (noticable) improvement in DAC quality won't be had without spending a lot of money!

In the price range you suggest all the AD's/DA's will be very similar. You couldn't go wrong with many interfaces as long as they have the features you need. Even cheap AD's/DA's these days are really very good, so unless you are on the hunt for something very special/expensive I wouldn't loose too much sleep over quality and relative differences between different interfaces!

It's much of a muchness at that price point.

I suggest you get a bit of what everybody else has. The popular and established ones are popular and established for a reason. I started with a M-Audio Delta 66 in 2000 and I recently bought a Delta 1010 for a total of 12 outs and 12 ins.

If you research the general opinion is that there are better sounding ones now for the money (Focusrite ?) but it was more cost effective for me to keep using the Delta 66 and add the 1010 to get the extra analogue outs.
