Need major help w choosing new bass + questions!

Good luck.. for what you are doing you probably want a "P" bass pickup in there... I usually play 'fender style' basses but that's more because you can swap parts around on them and customize them to the sky and back, when you are starting out that doesn't matter. I remember having the SRX as a backup and thought the neck was nice the pickups were not the best. The BB has sounds like an Japanese or American Fender.

You liked the SRX sound, slim neck, and med/small body.

Another SRX maybe? I don't know what's wrong with yours, but Ibanez has an excellent track record - it wouldn't hurt to try another one anyway.

Being you live near two great music stores - go there, and try stuff out - see what you like. Everybody here is going to tell you they like - you need to decide for yourself - take all day - take a couple days.

I'd love to visit SamAsh myself :cool:

oo i see. if i can find one and try it out, ill definitely look into it, i just dont want to buy them online without trying out the basses first cuz then i wouldnt be sure if i like them or not. i was thinking about a P-bass too, but the jazz basses have thinner necks which is good for me because i have small hands. the p-bass necks are bigger.

i can get $125 for my srx at this one store near where i live. should i do it? i looked on ebay, one srx400 was sold for 125.

edit: my statement above was referring to what troyus said.

and yea, i guess a plus is that i can upgrade parts for the fender MIM jazz in the future if i want.

well... i'll love a maple neck bass. i love the feel more. the sound, is different but not much.

sell ur bass, that price seems good! if u want to go used, u would find some more models. try them in the store, and look here in the classifieds , u'll find something great. or if u find some Squiers Made In Japan, now that is cool!!

u can always upgrade a well made bass.

look in my profile. i own a Squier Precision Special 5 (2 jazz pickups and a P body) and i heavely mod it. i put some Sadowskys, fender harness, hipshot tuners and Fodera SS strings. i play that more than my Bongo now :D

the bass is a joy to play ! oh Lord, i love it!!!

I wouldn't suggest trying to pass a bass off on somebody without telling them about the problem though. That wouldn't be right.

Hmmzz...1st of all, your brands of choice (Ibby/Fender) are quite opposite in terms of design & sound. If a thin neck is one of your most important requirements, then the only choice remains another Ibby, because after playing various other basses (Fender Jazz, ESP, Ibby, Spector, Schecter, Cort, W, etc) I can tell you there's no other bass with equally thin neck as an Ibby. This being said, my suggestion would be IBANEZ SR500 - it's a great bass and it's well worth the money. I believe they go for 500 - 550 new, considerably less used prolly, so it shouldn't be too difficult to spot one ;)

update! i am able to get a USED fender american 1989 jazz bass for after tax and everything, $710. i tried it out in the store, it seems pretty good, the condition is pretty nice id say. some small cosmestic issues/scratches, but nothing much, they are small and subtle scratches/dents. u cant really see them unless u take a close look at it. the guy said it might need a setup for it to adjust the stuff, but he said its only if i think i need it. he said it would cost 65 dollars for it. this is at GC, if i do need one, ill call samash about their price too. should i go for it? 710 for used fender american? this is including tax....its lame, 50 dollars for tax lol. oh well..what do u guys think?

No, I meant I think you could do better price-wise for a bass that old. They're asking a bit too much IMO. But I'd take an American Fender over a MIM Fender anyday.

Maybe you could talk them down a bit in price? Point out the dings and scratches and the age, and offer them $600. :)

hmm....well the guys already marking it down from $899 used. yea, it actually supposed to be $899 used, but hes being nice i guess bringing it down to $710, after tax already. so id feel kinda bad if i asked to bring it down even more.

any other suggestions/comments are welcomed!!
