Need narrow neck help!!

First of all, thanks to Talkbass for this forum..

And for letting me post.

Ok, I played a Fender Performer bass for 25+ years.....

It was my only bass...

I recently lost it when a pipe broke in my house and it sat under water for several days... ICK!! :(

ANYWAY, I have been looking into other basses and everything feels like a Louisville Slugger! :rollno:

The performer had a seriously skinny neck..

Can anyone recommend something modern with a comparable neck??

Thanks! SC

Satanclause,

Sorry to hear about your Performer being destroyed. Hopefully your insurance will help with this.

A Geddy Lee Signature Jazz has a very thin (even for a Jazz bass) neck.

You might also look at the SR series of Ibanez basses.

Best of luck with the search!

The Geddy have an amazing slim neck which is very nice and stable. But it cost as much as a MIA Jazz, well for me it is worth it!

Otherwise, yes the SR Ibanez which you I believe can find for less then the Geddy Jazz.

The Ibanez SR series has some of the thinnest necks I've played and can be found used for pretty cheap, so that's where I'd start. You might also want to look at the Fender Geddy Lee signature J bass.

If you find a bass whose tone you love but feel the neck is too thin you can always take some sandpaper to the back and sand it down yourself, or take it to a luthier and have him/her do it for you.

Good luck with the hunt!

Ah! I am sorry, lads...

I seem to have accidentally misled you....

What I MEANT to say was a NARROW neck....

At the body, the Performer fretboard was 2 1/4 inches wide.

This is what I am after...

Apologies all around! :D

I agree with the previous posters, Ibby SR basses have skinny/thin necks. One of the thinnest I've owned was a SR800, almost too thin.
Another bass that had a pretty skinny neck was the Lakland Dude Pit Ltd Edition II ("DPLEII"), it was the one with the Dark Star pickup. I grabbed the last one Steve Barr had.. but soon traded it to JoshB for a Stringray HS. But I've seen them pop up in the GFS section.

"A Geddy Lee Signature Jazz has a very thin (even for a Jazz bass) neck." +1. Also the Fender Jaguar bass has the same neck profile as the Geddy and a different choice of sounds. The Fender model is discontinued but still available on Ebay and elsewhere. Squire has a cheaper version, but I've never played one.
