Hello all,

I feel like it's time to upgrade my pups/preamp for my bass. I just have no idea which ones to get. Which do you all think has the best tone for someone who can slap, but doesn't all that much. I play more fingerstyle. Thanks guys!

What exactly prompts you to have that feeling? Do you not like your existing tone? What do you or don't you like about it?
Reason I ask is because a lot has to do with what you currently have and what you are looking for.

I had the same dilemma not to long ago after the electronics on my Katana NT (Which had the exact same pickups and preamp by the way) failed. I went for EMG-x. The tone is very deep and lively with no hum whatsoever). I have the 3 band eq from emg, the bass boost is clear and not muddy, the high is not harsh, very nice ring to it (i remember the original MEC being harsh), the mids are very special since it is a parametric stack. This knob is amazing, it changes the character of the bass in a second. also the eq fits nicely in the cavity. Now some people love EMGs and some people don't, so listen to some tone examples online.
