I did know, i was looking at them, but quite frankly i dont see what makes them special. They aren't any thicker than the average, which is what i was looking for, and theyre expensive. Are they really that good, do you know?
Yeah, i like D'addario, whihc do you suggest, should be good for slapping and, if possible, thick/deep sounding
What ere their arguments against them? You made them seem good up until the "no matter" part![]()
Not sure why you'd want to buy strings from Guitar Center or Sam Ash, seems strange.
Bass Strings Online is the only place to get strings these days.

Also, any particular reason why you want heavy gauge strings?
This is what confuses me and a few other I'm sure. You say you're after a "Flea" tone yet when Jason tells you they make a set to his specs you poo poo them. More because of cost than gauge I would suspect.
Everyday someone comes around here asking for string suggestions when the only one who can really tell what you're after is you. You can get 105-50 or 110-50 sets in a pretty wide variety of strings so pick something and try them.
Sorry to seem impatient but it's frustrating be asked for advice given a certain set of parameters and then when given that advice you say that's not really what you want or it's too expensive.
Cost was never part of your original parameters and you were willing to pay retail prices at a music store before it was a suggested that you could save money by ordering through Jason's company so I don't get it. Do you really know what you want?
You're not somehow related to my ex-wife are you?![]()
I use 160's, and I practice slapping, but it's not something I'm heavily into. You might want to consider 165's. Same E and A, slightly thinner D and G - a little less stiff and easier for popping. Of course, once you figure out what gauges you do like, you could always hit bassstringsonline.com and build your ideal set if it isn't already offered.
JustStrings.com has a good selection and great service as well.

Will they still deliver that sorta deep sound that you would get from some of the heavier gauged strings? I think i may have a problem with liking slap and heavier rock, i want both sounds![]()
Dont know why youd think heavy gauge gives better tone. Plenty find light to medium gauge gives best tone. Dr neons are very good strings but DR has regular problems with strings out of the box. For wide gauge set range Rotosound swing66 and Daddario offer good range. I mostly get strings at GC or online thru musiciansfriend or amazon.
Try some 165's. I think they'll give you what you want. My basses sound full, deep, and rich. But, I've got a decent rig and pretty much everything sounds full, deep, and rich through my rig. What kind of amp do you play through? If nothing else, you should put your gear in your profile. That will allow the rest of us to say "I see you've got ________. My experience with that is...."
I've been using D'Addarios for years. They last for ages, retain good tone for a long time (and sound great out of the box of course), and they're smooth to play. They also make strings of just about every type and guage you could ever need, so if you're looking for heavy guage they're definitely a good place to look.
