I read that site top to bottom three times thinking I must be missing something, all these benefits were spelled out, all my questions were answered, and I was just an idiot. Read like the ramblings of a loon to me. The Inuits would have sent this guy out to sea on a piece of ice.
Hey thanks for at least going to the site. As previously mentioned, it is still being fleshed out. And as a side note, do you know one of the definitions used to define insanity? It is, not producing something of use to society. What would someone have said about the, "ramblings" of Einstein were he born ten year years earlier? Michael Laine is not a loon, or a scam artist, though he may be proposing a dream bigger than humanly possible right now. While you were on the site, reading closely, did you see how many members there are? People with degrees, students who are going to MIT, folks who actually work in the fields you'd think applicable to this project, all ready to volunteer money, time, effort, whatever they can. Yea, they all could be scam artists, or loons too I suppose. I don't think so, as there are too many people, "gathered", there who would know better if this wasn't very worthwhile.

I don't suppose you are going to tell investors to go "long and strong" with this investment?

I looked at the thread, without seeing any connection. Perhaps you could spell it out?
It might be worth you taking the time to read through all 25 pages. I think there is a lot of valuable information that you could learn from that thread about how to spot scams etc. You may well want to check out how the Nevada Mining Corporation is doing these days as well (since there havn't been updates on that thread for some time). Suffice to say, the investors are not happy.

I'm going to assume this. So here is what I'm thinking.
I looked at the thread. Looking at the content of the thread you are currently reading, see I believe there is no relationship. If you still see one, read this thread (the space elevator one), if you still see one, and insist..I'm going to put you in the third category. It's labeled, "Those who are not actually paying Attention". The other categories are, "Paying Attention and Skeptic", and, "Paying Attention seeker". Unfortunately, this thread has much of the, "paying...skeptic" group. Takes all kinds I guess.

That's right, the Stage of Washington already entered into a cosnent Order with the CEO and Company because they admitted to illegally offering securities (ie getting investors) in Washington. It appears this Kickstarter is just another way of obtaining funds without the illegal issue of securities in the company. He also admitted to engaging in fraud:
"In connection with the offer or sale of the said securities Liftport, Inc., violated RCW 21.20.010 because, as set forth in the Tentative Findings of Fact, Respondent made misstatements of material fact or omitted to state material facts necessary in order to make the statements made, in light of circumstances under which they were made, not misleading and/or engaged in acts and practices that operated as a fraud or deceit."
Do I think its a scam? All signs point to yes.

Very interesting. According to the consent order, Laine collected $117,542 from investors between June 2003 and March 2006.
The Consent Order also notes that, "As early as 2004 the Liftport website contained a section ... which stated, 'Money: At present, Liftport, Inc. is in the early start-up stages, and like any start-up, has strong financial needs in order to achieve our goal of building the Space Elevator."

Given that the website was indicating that the company was a start-up at that time, but projecting a 2018 operation date, should it not have been growing, rather than shrinking?
Here's another interesting fact from the Consent Order: "The offering materials Liftport provided to potential investors in connection with the offering did not include financial statements, a detailed use of proceeds, projected costs to develop and build the space elevator, general risk factors related to the space technology, and specific risk factors related to space elevator production." This is exactly the same type of information that I searched for, but found missing, at the liftport.com website.
Basically, this boils down to a guy who got pinged for fraudulently trying to raise capital via a share issue (when at least in theory the investors would have got something back) now finding another avenue to do it through kickstarter and social media. However, because funds dondated through Kickstarter creates no legal accountability, eh can do whatever he likes with them and you would have no standing to sue (nor would any regulator). Quite a clever way to separate fools from their money.

Well yeah, of course I know about the case. And the people and organizations which are going to be supporting this project do as well. Judging from all the stuff coming from you guys I know you don't think this world is without all kinds of grey areas between the black and white lines you are currently insisting on! I'm not even going to point out
the forty seven people which changed the world either for the better or just gave us all these things which made our lives easier, while killing their competition, selling illegal shares, blowing up other people's oil wells, back trading, plain out stealing, etc.
Should we all aspire to greatness by doing it their way? Of course not, yet, the fact remains, were it not for these realities our world would look very different. Tesla's lab was destroyed by his competition to keep him from moving forward with this ideas! Ideas which really by some still are not even recognized as his. It really boils down to all of you just painting with flimsy noodles. If you don't believe in the project dont. The scam screaming is tiresome. The horse is beaten.
