Need some help on a new guitar

I'm a very green bass player -- 6 months. My wife bought me a Fender knock off (a "Crescent") for Xmas and I've been playing the heck out of it, learning the ropes, and really enjoy playing. I've upgraded my amp to a Hartke B900 and am thinking about taking the next step towards a new guitar.

I've played 3 that I like.

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass -- $300 -- I understand Squier is Fender's lower end, but this thing was pretty, felt good, played very easily and sounded decent in the store. Any feeback on this would be great.

Schecter -- I've liked almost any Schecter bass I've played. Prices ranged from about $450 -- $650

Soundgear by Ibanez -- This thing was awesome but also priced around $800.

Obviously, the $300 Squier was appealing from a price standpoint. I'm not looking to go pro but I want a guitar that will last a while. The Schecter and Soundgear models were sweet, but is the price diffrerence worth it?

Also, my current guitar is a P-bass. These three were jazz basses. Being fairly green, can someone run me through the plusses/minuses of one to the other?

I appreciate your help.

of all three i like the squier due to its resale value in case you decide to move on to an upgrade....IMO

+1

The vintage modified squier has a great feel - I played the P and the Jazz. You can always upgrade it easily later - it gives you a great platform for modding which helps keep GAS away too :p

That'd be your best bet - you can't get near the resale value on an Ibanez or Schecter IMO. I've owned an Ibanez and Schecter Stiletto 4 - it was a beautiful instrument. Played very nicely too, so I wouldn't count it out either. If you can, play a bunch and see what fits for your style.
