Need some opinions on a five string

This comes with a case, is in your price range, and I bought the same deal from them months ago and would do it all over again. If you decide to upgrade a bit later on, you can go to the Studio version which is again a bargain at their respective price range. The satin black works perfectly in all the settings you mentioned.

I agree! that is a sweet bass, and the P/MM pickup configuration makes it even better....and its 35" scale! SOLD!
I tend to love Ibanez Soundgears, but man that Schecter is killer!

My first 5 string that was loaned to me as an Introduction. Hated the tone but loved the look. I no longer have this bass and don’t really miss it LOL :roflmao:

Do yourself a favor and play any 5 string you can until it sticks to you like glue. Trust, it’s an amazing feeling once you’ve found the one!

Definitely try a 5 first if you can or at least try to buy from somewhere that has a good return policy. For less expensive instruments, I like Yamaha and SBMM. Those would be my first choice if I were in your shoes but I don't have a ton of experience with the Schecters that others have suggested. Ibanez can be decent quality too, but you might find the electronics a bit dull sounding as I did on the SR500 series (I had the SR506). I haven't played the G&L tribute series but it does seem like they have been having more QC issues with those lately from what I've read here on TB.

Awesome, thanks for the recommendation. I tried out an Omen Extreme from Schecter recently and ended up returning it, but I will give the stilleto a try if my guitar center has one I can demo.

I also recommend playing as many as you can.

One of the things you will need to decide is string spacing.

A lot of fives have closer spacing to try to fit five strings into (more or less) the space of four.
That works for some, but not for everyone.
In my case, I really dig my old 4 string P, but like to switch off to a five.
My fives have 19mm spacing to leave me one less thing to think about when I change from P to fiver.
Maybe that matters to you.
Maybe not.
You'll have to decide that for yourself.
