yes I do have a Roscoe.. I was told to try FlexSteels.. but maybe ill get a pair of dunlops super brights.. from bassstringsonline.com

I'm kinda looking for a more phat low boom bass sound.. Im not sure about "bright" should be there.. but I am very curious to try the Dunlop strings..
Well keep in mind I recommended the SuperBrights since you mentioned FlexSteels, so I assumed you wanted a more grindy, punchy, bright sound. Both sound like the opposite of what you want. If you want phat and dark you probably want flats.
no no, I had flats already.. I tried Labella flats deep talking bass and also XL-flatwounds..
I"m not looking for the flatwound thing, i'm just looking for a roundwound nickel plated steel string that isnt crazy tinny high and treble but has bottom low good phat bottom bass.. thats all.. if that makes sense..
Think Smooth Fat Gospel R&B, BabyFace, or Church Big bottom bass sound.. R.Kelly etc..

I just put on a set of DR Jonas Hellborgs. They are different - big windings that most people don't mind but some hate. I like the feel. To me they sound like rounds with everything shifted soundwise towards the bass - not low mids mind you - but bass. Not a lot of gank or sheen but still some brightness and definition. Clear, pure and smooth with rolled of highs and deep bass. I like the sound so far - I'm wondering if l'll miss the extra mids in a band context - we'll see.
People have been slagging Dulop 'regular' nickels now that super brights have come out but I like them on the right bass. They have a nice warm growl and aren't super bright - go figure.
Re: Flexsteels - I've tried these as well. Nice strings but I wouldn't call them super fat sounding - more sweet clear upper mids and top end without sounding thin.

Because everybody thinks flatwound, I understand and I went down that route already and while I did kinda like it, I missed something..
But I'm sure church bass players and guys who play for Prince or Quest Love or probably don't use flatwounds.. I guess I need to decide between sunbeams, ghs boomers , or still maybe try the nickel dunlops.. Or even give a go with the Dunlop super brights..
I notice not too many people say anything about Daddario...

DR Pure Blues. Unbelievable strings. I used the Flexsteels and wasn't impressed but it could have been bass specific. They didn't seem to have much meat to the sound - it was all "sproing" and I didn't seem to be hearing myself in the mix.
What's to say?
The quality is consistently there; the price is reasonable, they last a long time, they are generally available.
The FlexSteels are _not_ nickel-plated, so if that's a requirement, you won't find it there.
Pretty sure I could get the video tone on my Roscoe with FlexSteels favoring the neck pickup and turning down the treble.
Strings, individual basses, and tone are highly personal.
It's kind of like The Matrix - no one can be told about string tone - you must experience it for yourself.
And many strings need somewhere between a few days and a few weeks to settle into their 'broken in' tone...
Based on this video I think DR Pure Blues might be what you're looking for. They do sound as advertised - big, round nickel sound with a little bit of the steel growl. You definitely won't get that sound with Flexsteels IMHO.
I think nobody is really saying anything about the D'Addario's because they seem to be the opposite of what you want tonally.

Pure Blues - $35 a set...
Might hafta get a set at some point tho...
Yes, I admit I did cringe a bit when buying them but man do they sound (and feel) good. Also, I think DR's quality control is second to none. At the $35 price point though I might go back to Fat Beams since they are down to $25 now. They were formerly my "best bass string of all time".
The price for Pure Blues 5 string sets at Bass Strings Online is $30, so that's a little cheaper.
Still though, that's the main reason I haven't tried them yet. I just can't see them beating Dunlop Super Brights in any possible way, and SuperBrights are $19 for a 5 string set.
ok ok ok.. i'm gonna try Both Dunlop super brights and DR pure blues..
its final! ill just have to try them both.
. i'll probably throw the sunbeams in there too .. but why if I'm getting the PureBlues..
