need to talk: (pure) Nickel strings / any different ? what should i try ?

The Pyramid pure Nickel - roundwound set is btw. rated to have ~0.3kg more tension than the stainless steel set from Pyramid.
Interesting, i thought it would be the other way around.

Pure nickel is a heavier and denser metal (= more mass) than stainless steel, so, all else being equal, it takes more tension to be brought up to pitch.

ahh, that has slipped out of my brain.
....while roundwound makes for lesser tension.
so the nickel "wins" here vs. the roundcore. interesting

Is such a Pyramid pure nickel set changing its sound over time,
or is it allready what it is from begin ?
i think, i remember, i read different things about PN strings.

I agree. Pure nickel strings can have great clarity, but the highest treble is subdued and softened.
It's like they come pre-EQed

its also my observation.
I even can switch now to passiv mode on that Bass, and it sounds even and good.

ok, went thru my posts:
i have this numbers from a privat exchange with Max.

I had there some custom string sets built for me.
...i did not take regular prebuilt packs.
( My post you´re refering to, was just made when i had these strings freshly here)

I took same set (gauge/tension adjustment) in PN and NP.
That was the context, this specific sentence / numbers came from.

I'm actually surprised the tension of the Pyramid pure nickel rounds are so close to their stainless steel, since nickel is about 25% more dense than steel. Likewise according to GHS, Balanced Nickels are only slightly more tense than their Super Steels.

I wonder if all "pure nickel" bass strings use pure nickel for every wrap layer, or if some only use pure nickel for the most outer wrap...

I'm looking to put pure nickel rounds on one of my basses that is tuned to D-standard. I'm looking for something that has tension/feel similar to 50-110 DR Hi-Beams or 40-100 D'Addario Chromes (which I find close in tension/feel).

I was thinking about ordering 50-110 Pyramid Pure Nickel but wondered if they would be too heavy for me, in light of the fact I had 45-105 Chromes tuned to D-standard for a while but they were eventually too heavy and I went down to 40-100. But like I said, 50-110 Hi-Beams (and Pure Blues) work for me...

There's a couple different things that go into that, but I can say that the outer wrap on the Balanced Nickels is the only part that's pure nickel. Under that is nickel-plated steel.
