Need your help - cab noise

Well, today I had my first experience with a single cabinet (rather than a combo). the cab is an Eden CX-110
(200 Watts), and I put my workingman's 12 (120W) as a head.
Now when the head of the SWR is disconnected from its cabinet, it should give the Eden the normal 120 W..

When I turned it on, and played (pretty hard) the low notes of my B string, I got some awful,distorted sound, that got me a bit scared

Is it a normal thing for a 1X10 cab, when handling a low B?

In the future I'll operate the cab with a WT405 head,
but this one is rated at 250W/8ohm, so isn't it going make it harder for the cabinet?

sounds like cone overexcursion to me. A 200 watt rating for the cab does not mean it can handle 200 watts at all frequencies. It will probably handle the electrical current, the paper cone just can't handle the movement. The bigger the speaker the less prominent this problem is. On top of that most 10' cabs are not designed with a loud low B in mind.

You want more than the 1*10 cab can offer. You might want to look out for a 4*10 or for something with a 12 or 15.

Can this issue damage the cab?

BTW, Eden has a combo built with the wt405 and this cab.. so I guess it's a good combination.. 250W ->200W cab

You are just asking that poor 110 to do more than it can handle. Make sure the bass is not turned up turn down the output/master vol and then increase volume until it distorts a little on the B string then back it off. That will be your loudest useable volume for the b on that cab and head combination.

The cab/driver rating is electrical, representing the amount of power that the voice coil will take without melting. The power a driver will handle before reaching its mechanical limit is on average only 25% of the electrical limit.

The CX-110 should be able to handle a low B at reasonable levels. You may be over driving it, or it is possible that you have a defective driver.

if you want to stick with a small cabb go with a 115 or a 112 cabb
