Hi guys, can somebody help with my 78 ebony ripper query?

I have always wondered if mine's been rewired.

On my ripper, 2 and 4 are the 'bassiest' (4 is bassier than 2) whilst 1 and 3 are the thinnest sounding. Does that sound about right?

Can somebody shed some light on this for me?

I need a wiring diagram for a ripper and I need to know what kind of switch to use. Stewmac has several rotary choices. Trying to wire a Ripper to factory spec. Line6man, are you able to help?

Factory settings on the switch are:

1 - Both in series
2 - Neck only
3 - Both in parallel
4 - Both out-of-phase

So in answer to your question, it definitely sounds like it's been rewired. There's no way out-of -phase should be bassiest. So I'm guessing that a fairly common wiring mod that changes position 4 to neck pickup only is probably what was done. I also suspect something else might have been changed, but it would be hard to know without listening to it while checking which pickups are live in each position and probably cracking it open to see what was done inside to be sure. The things some people have done to the guts of a Ripper can curl your hair.

If you're adventurous, see the attached wiring diagrams for how it was originally wired. (With thx to Cadfael and his wonderful wiring diagram collection.)

4-Position 3-pole rotary. Mouser Electronics carries some. (p/n: SR2511F-0304-19R0B-E9-N-W)

See my earlier post for the attached wiring diagrams.

Just noticed an error I made in my earlier post - must have been drinking!:cautious:

Here’s the correction since my earlier post is now too old for the forum software to allow it to be edited:

Factory settings on the switch are:

1 - Both in series
2 - Bridge only (I said neck only earlier)
3 - Both in parallel
4 - Both out-of-phase
