Needing volume pedal post-effects.

So I'm running an active bass into a VT deluxe then a comp/tuner in the effects loop. I want to put the volume pedal after the compressor.. Looking at the Ernie Ball VP JR.. Need to use it solely for volume control, not swells. Our guitarist is willing to sell me the 25k version on the cheap since it doesn't swell enough for him, will it work even though it says it's for passive instruments? Would I just have to lower the output on the comp? I'm not very educated on this resistance/inductance business. OTOH I could spend the extra $40 on the 250k version and have the two year warranty and such. WWTBD?

Thanks!

The active one will have a better taper with active bass and post effects. The passive one might work too but you might notice that there isn't much volume control until you are almost full taper.
